Here are my Aurora pics! It's the very first time I posted images on TWO, so may go wrong!

Initially the aurora was faint green, taken near Ringinglow, Sheffield, approx 08.30 pm.

Then the aurora become most spectacular around midnight with various shades of red, magenta and pink. Taken in Nether Edge, Sheffield.

The green aurora was taken with iPhone 12 Pro Max, the pink aurora with iPhone 15 |Pro Max.

Why was the recent aurora and others often forecast (and presumably seen) much further South in the USA than Europe ? Many of those forecasts show the visible probability band much further South below the 50 ° Latitude in USA whilst scraping Scotland .

The forecast was wrong though, the Aurora was overhead at one point here so would have been visible even on the south coast I imagine.

It was overhead here too (51.4N). However, bear in mind it was visible in Florida, at 30N!

It's always going to be harder to see it here than at the same latitude in Canada - the border there being around 49N, and much further south towards the east of the country.

It's always the way as the magnetic North Pole is over Canada - it means the aurora is always further south over the Americas compared to Europe.

Its clearly not a great comet if you have to know where to look and then squint. I saw comet Bennett in April 1970 - it was absolutely amazing! No need for a camera to produce an impressive image of Bennet. Though, in those days, we got more clear, cold, Nly nights.

Here too and frustratingly mostly just in the area of the sky the comet would be visible! No chance tonight either. Apparently there is another comet visible later this month that may be visible to the naked eye (C/2024 S1). There is however a chance that its nucleus may have disintegrated.
