Look north John!

An impressive Cumulonimbus thundercloud over Fife slowly moving south towards us

Lightning sferics with it too

However, these storms still have to cross the relatively cool Firth of Firth before they actually reach us, and what's the betting that they fizzle out before doing so?

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

There hasn't been any new lightning strikes from those storms to our north for around 20 minutes or so now, and those echoes on the radar map aren't looking quite as intense as they were.

That would suggest to me that this is already all fizzling out and that will show us yet again, that yet another yellow warning for thunderstorms here in Edinburgh has been a complete waste of time.😡🤢

The lightning spikes to our north have now completely disappeared from the radar map and everything is continuing to gradually fizzle out.

There might still be enough in that for us to get a shower of rain (or even a spell of rain) if that reaches us, but we're clearly not going to get even the least bit of thunder or lightning from that now.🤢

Looks like the heavy showers are going to merge into an area of heavy rain over Lothian later

There's a new yellow warning out 😲

At this rate Swanston weather station will have four times it's May rainfall 😱

I've just heard a rumble of thunder in the distance and it appears that this has come from fresh lightning spikes which has suddenly appeared on the radar map over East Lothian and just to our north.

I  therefore wouldn't give up hope in the south of Edinburgh because it looks as though the storms have reformed a bit after reaching the warmer land surface over East Lothian and the same thing could easily happen over Edinburgh.

As I write, it's now also absolutely chucking it down with rain here in NW Edinburgh.
