Woken at about 3am to continuous rumbling and lightning for about 15mins to our South and West. Cannot imagine what it would have been like underneath it as it was non-stop. Very impressive. Flashes every 30seconds and just a continuous deep rumbling.

I've been in Weymouth and someone mentioned they have a rain gauge that showed 1.5ins in old money from last night.

It seems to go on and on this wet season.

Only 3mm here since midnight but an hour of pyrotechnics and it was overhead at around 115 am with a  property half a mile away suffering a hit .

BBC Radio Sussex quoting Meto as recording 35,000 lightning strikes last night, mostly over the Channel. I don't know if they included lightning over France in this total?

One strike hit a Hall of Residence in the University of Chichester and another a care home near Bognor with severe roof damage. No personal injuries or fire reported.

Apparently one ingredient in triggering the storms was 28C temp in the Paris region yesterday

Not sure if anything going to develop from the continent tonight could be the making of some storms. Although wouldn’t think anything like last Night

Small cell formed around 11pm just south of Welwyn near Potters Bar tonight, moderate rain at the moment and seems to be moving out to the west.

We were on the northern edge of the storms last night (with a couple of crackers at around 4:30-5am). Although lightning was visible from 3am from strikes over Essex/London, it was an added bonus to have some overhead action tonight.

Big storm last night with torrential rain and lightning every few seconds. hardly any thunder heard though so it must have been some distance away despite the rain being so heavy.

Bit late commenting on this but had some trouble logging in. Haven't had anything worthy of reporting for so long I kind of gave up. Glad that came to an end with the storm this week. Had a couple of spells of it here around 01.30 and 03.30. Went to bed having spent an hour watching the lightning map and all looked good for the storms over France to head this way but always aware of how often they don't make it. Woke up to a very distant rumbling sound and then the unmistakable slight increase in volume as it came closer. Then a spell of proper thunderstormy torrential rain, and soon the sky was alight with constant lightning and the thunder was continuous. Was all very high up in the clouds so none of that window rattling deafening stuff. Was a perfect storm in that respect

Portent of a warm thundery summer ahead or the equivalent of a November snowfall to be followed by 3 months of mild guff?

There’s some impressive convective activity in parts of Angus and Aberdeenshire this afternoon. Still pleasant and dry here in Aberdeen for the moment.

Reading some comments, that funnel could be further north over the Pennines.

Moving from Otley towards Harrogate

Another centre south of Birmingham, near Redditch, looking intense but very local.

My mum's garden in Pudsey was underwater, apparently it happened once before in the 70's or 80's causing my Dad to a dig a big hole and fill it with rocks to improve drainage.  Didn't work for this time though.

Appears to have been 60mm in my gauge , lighter rain now.

An incredible storm over West Yorkshire this afternoon! From what I've seen on social media, much of Leeds and Bradford are experiencing flash flooding. Remarkable and scary.

Bradford 17.0 mm and Astwood (Worcs) 14mm from the two storms noted on here yesterday, though this says nothing about the rate of rainfall, and the centre of the storm may have missed the recording station.

Meanwhile Charlwood (Surrey) recorded 30.4 mm - do we have any local observations for there? There was a warning out for southern counties as well as the Pennines but 50 miles from Charlwood, in Chichester, it didn't feel in the least thundery.

PWS around here are in the 60-70mm range for yesterday. Most of that in the first 45 minutes!  Highly variable of course.

This here in the 60-70mm zone.
