A calm afternoon with unbroken sunshine shining through the west facing windows between 3 and 5.30pm has resulted in not needing to give the house a one hour central heating boost this evening. Most unexpected ! .

18.2c in the hallway with temperatures ranging from 18.7c to 19.2c elsewhere around the house. Thick curtains now closed to trap it in.

Very pleased.

A pleasantly warm 19.1°C now (without heating obviously). It’s Impressive what a bit of sunshine can do.

An unusually large spread yesterday afternoon: 24 upstairs and 17 downstairs.

Overnight the heating came on and by the morning it was 19 up and 16 down.

Upon coming in this afternoon it was 21 up and 15.5 down, the heating came on as I opened the front door.

It's now 21 up and 16 down, the heating being set to 16.

18.3 C this morning.

The BBC news featured a couple who for medical reasons needed to keep their house warm. Life is going to be tough for them this winter, and I sympathise; but I'd sympathise more if the accompanying footage hadn't shown a completely open floor plan with no draught exclusion or doors shut etc to compartmentalise the warmest parts of the house.

Individual rooms that you can heat separately will really come into their own this winter. I think there will be plenty of people with large, modern, open plan living room-cum dining area-cum kitchen who will be groaning this winter...

19.7c outside. The doors are open trying to usher the 18c chill away from indoors. (There won't be many days I'll be able to do this now).

Went up to 21C at lunch time when sun was warming up indoors, then as the sun leave the SE facing windows, the temps indoor drop to 19.5 and back to 20C with shutters closed, computer on, wife cooking so keeping indoors warm and heating free day.

Sunshine raised the internal temperature in the hallway to 19.3c with a general 19.7c to 20.2c around the house. After the recent chill it feels positively warm.

18.6c in the hallway this morning. The recovery continues.

A general 19.2 to 19.7 elsewhere.

No heating required.

A combination of a mild calm and cloudy night (outside low 13c) and yesterday afternoon sunshine has given things a nice boost.

Really hoping that the sun shines from 2pm today. If so 20c could be reached in the hallway with 21c elsewhere. We need the cloud to clear away for that though.

21.5 C late evening yesterday; 20.2 this morning. I'm surprised that there was so little cooling even given that it was a mild night

I feel an achievement having lasted longer than you

The builders tried to  connect our fancy thermostat back up today. Doesn't work.  No idea why.  So further delays to having any heating.  The thing costs about £200 (we got as part of new boiler) as well as being smart/WIFI , tells you the outside temp on the screen too (either via a sensor that you can stick on your house, or using local data, we went for the local data which is quite accurate wherever it comes from , the sensor needed wiring in and would have been on the patio in sunshine) to help work out how hard to heat your home. But to break after 2 years is rather annoying.    Should have gone for a simple old school thing!

Also geolocates if you go more than a specified distance from your home and switches off when empty then pre heats when it knows you are back in a certain range. I wouldn't say it's saved a fortune, maybe 10% or so but the comfort level is way up. Plus the convenience of easy programming on phone app or PC makes life easy. Cost about £120 but I did install it myself.

It's been between 16.5 and 17.5 downstairs for the past day and a half, no heating but getting close to the 16 threshold.

Upstairs it's generally been between 19 and 21; it's presently 21 up there with the sun shining in.

EDIT: A few hours later, with the setting sun shining in from the west, it's 23C up and 18C down.

Largely unbroken afternoon sunshine after 2pm, a light breeze, an outside temperature of 18c and a Sunday roast have worked their magic to give a hallway temperature of 21.0c with other rooms in the house in the range 21.5 to 22.5c.

With a few external warm days ahead and some nicely stored internal warmth I'm hopeful we now won't need to think about central heating for another 5 days or so.

The heating came on briefly this morning as it dipped below 16C downstairs. It's a surprisingly cold night outside (7.8C) as of writing.

Used 20m3 of gas in September 2022 compared to 28m3 in September 2021. We were away in Sep 21 for 9 nights too.
Want to try and significantly beat the 90m3 used in October 2021 now.

Not had any heating on the last two days 17-18c inside.
