The latest rainfall data for Edinburgh Gogarbank and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh are as follows:

Data For Recent Days

Total since 10am BST yesterday morning (09:00 UTC): 20.4 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 23.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh (as at 8am BST this morning on Friday 9 September 2022)

That makes yesterday the wettest day this year so far at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, and light rain is still falling here at times as I write.

Monthly Data

Total for this month so far: 45.8 mm (83.0% of 1991-2020 September average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 48.0 mm (87.4% of 1991-2020 September average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of rain days during this month so far: 4 (38.0% of 1991-2020 September average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 4 (40.3% of 1991-2020 September average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of dry days during this month so far: 2 at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 2 at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh

This means that just another 9.6 mm of rain or more now needs to fall at Edinburgh Gogarbank between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average there in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

In addition to that, this also means that just another 7.2 mm of rain or more now needs to fall at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average there in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

Seasonal Data

Total for this Autumn so far: 45.8 mm (21.7% of 1991-2020 Autumn average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 48.0 mm (24.5% of 1991-2020 Autumn average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of rain days during this Autumn so far: 4 (11.0% of 1991-2020 Autumn average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 4 (12.0% of 1991-2020 Autumn average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of dry days during this Autumn so far: 2 at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 2 at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh

Annual Data

Total for this year so far: 404.2 mm (51.5% of 1991-2020 year average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 354.4 mm (48.7% of 1991-2020 year average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of rain days during this year so far: 84 (61.1% of 1991-2020 year average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 75 (58.5% of 1991-2020 year average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of dry days during this year so far: 128 at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 127 at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh

That is about twice as high as the figures which I have just reported for here in the north of Edinburgh, and I believe that this is probably due to the fact that the rain actually stalled just to the south of here for quite a period of time during yesterday before moving NW over us later on in the day.

This meant that for for most of yesterday, it was probably likely to have already been raining at Comiston whilst the north of Edinburgh was relatively dry so from that context, I still have a valid claim that the weather in the north of Edinburgh isn't generally as interesting as it is in the south of Edinburgh (or elsewhere for that matter).

Meanwhile, Comiston has had a total of 575.8 mm of rain during this year so far according to SEPA, a total of 113.6 mm of rain during this month so far and a total of 113.6 mm during this autumn so far.

I don't know what the official 1991-2020 average September rainfall is for Comiston but since this is unlikely to all that much different from the averages for Edinburgh Gogarbank or the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, it would appear that Comiston has already had a lot more than that average during this month which means that regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month, this month will already be going down as being wetter than average there which is remarkable when you consider that we're only 9 days (which is slightly less than a third of the way) into this month.

In addition to that, I have also noticed that unlike my own local stations which I always report on here, Comiston also had a substantially wetter than average August with a total of 122.8 mm. According to SEPA, the monthly average during August is 92.1 mm at Comiston which is higher than what it is in the rest of Edinburgh, although there is no mention there of which period that average refers to (1981-2010 or 1991-2020).

I mentioned quite a lot of the time that there appeared to be a lot of rainfall around at times during August which just wasn't being picked up at either Edinburgh Gogarbank or the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, and that was one of my biggest points of frustration during that period rather than any claim that it wasn't actually raining, but it would appear from the data that this wasn't actually the case at Comiston which appeared to pick up the biggest brunt of that rainfall.

Wind off sea from NE and heavy showers are doing what they are supposed to rather than fizzling away to nothing by the time they get here from more westerly quarters.
About 3mm first thing and another 3mm or so the past hour.
Since ground was already nicely wetted it should really be soaking in now so drought can finally be considered practically over here.
Even farm spring supply has recovered enough to turn cattle troughs back on mind it had only started to struggle on Tuesday this week.
They had alternative water just a bit further to walk too.
Just gone over 25mm for the month.
I would not be surprised if September is wettest so far this year which would not be hard since it only has to beat February with 49mm

Already a ridiculous 84mm here so far this month. Good for the plants but otherwise just rather soggy. Having said that, given the high rainfall totals, the ground is nit that wet even still.

The latest rainfall data for Edinburgh Gogarbank and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh are as follows:

Data For Recent Days

Total since 10am BST yesterday morning (09:00 UTC): 5.8 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 7.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh (as at 6am BST this morning on Monday 12 September 2022)

Monthly Data

Total for this month so far: 52.0 mm (94.3% of 1991-2020 September average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 55.0 mm (100.1% of 1991-2020 September average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of rain days during this month so far: 5 (47.4% of 1991-2020 September average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 5 (50.4% of 1991-2020 September average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of dry days during this month so far: 4 at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 4 at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh

This means that more rain has now fallen during this month at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh than the 1991-2020 September average for that particular station which means that regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month, this month will now go down as being wetter than average there in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

However, this also means that another 3.4 mm of rain or more still needs to fall at Edinburgh Gogarbank between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average there in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

Furthermore, this also means that just another 5 or more rain days now needs to be recorded at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average there in terms of the number of rain days.

However, it should be borne in mind that those are the two stations here in Edinburgh where there has actually been the least amount of recent rainfall as has been highlighted on this thread fairly recently so at other stations here in Edinburgh, this month's totals are already well above that particular station's long term September average, especially in the south of Edinburgh.

In addition to that, we are still not even halfway through this month yet ans so, it is probably safe to say now that this will be a wetter than average month in the end, even at Edinburgh Gogarbank which at long, long last will finally end our long run of drier than average months even though this hasn't officially happened there just yet.

Seasonal Data

Total for this Autumn so far: 52.0 mm (24.6% of 1991-2020 Autumn average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 55.0 mm (28.1% of 1991-2020 Autumn average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of rain days during this Autumn so far: 5 (13.7% of 1991-2020 Autumn average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 5 (15.0% of 1991-2020 Autumn average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of dry days during this Autumn so far: 4 at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 4 at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh

Annual Data

Total for this year so far: 410.4 mm (52.3% of 1991-2020 year average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 361.4 mm (49.7% of 1991-2020 year average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of rain days during this year so far: 85 (61.8% of 1991-2020 year average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 76 (59.3% of 1991-2020 year average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of dry days during this year so far: 130 at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 129 at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
