Absolutely ridiculous. The warmest time of the year and all we're getting is day after day of vile grey skies and temperatures 2-4C below average. Feels like late October, not late July, and will need to consider putting the heating on if there isn't improvement soon, as each dire overcast day further drains the house of warmth.

Same in the Midlands which doing like Lerwick climate and well below average temps daytime. Was also very poor in SE last 3 days of cloudy weather and driven back from there this morning no sight of blue skies on route.  House temps around 22 to 23C as the shutters are preventing the cold glass feed inside and stop the heat loss as well.  July will result very poor month lack of sun and weather interests apart from the heatwave that now sadly wont be remember good one due to record dull month overshadow it than August 2003.

Temperatures here yesterday shot to 28C before the clouds came back.  Today I can feel the intense heat on my neck when i walking with my wife to her work place and the sun heat above the clouds are trying to get in but clouds refusing it.  Temperatures above the clouds likely to be 25-30C range that cannot enter the ground levels.

With very dry landscape, it been a big waste opportunity to see temperatures in the 25-30C daily range if was sunny.  Can't wait for easterly winds to come to move this away and bring warm to hot sunny days.

They’re still fairly common in June but yeah, they’re becoming unusual in July & August. Lowest temp in July here was 11C, and we last fell below 10C on the 21st of June. It was 11C last night, and currently 12C now. Not sure if we’ll dip below 10C.

I remember about a decade ago we had a 3C low in late August, I really can’t imagine that happening now. 

Turning into another horrendous summer yet again due to an extreme 'Weekend Curse' 

The only record that was set in July here was for the highest proportion of the monthly rainfall to occur at weekends - an absolutely shocking 79% 

This smashed my previous record of 68% in March 2017. Then it was down to an exceptionally wet Saturday with most of the month dry and sunny whereas the weekends in July were persistently dreadful without one notably wet day.

Saturdays in particular have been diabolical with a miserable 3.2 hour daily sun average in July - the lowest of any month so far this year  Worse still only one of the five actually recorded as much as that as it was skewed by the sunny 16th 

Now into August and the horror run of vile Saturdays continues with yet another day of dismal depressing and soul destroying overcast grot This follows a week when it was sunny practically the whole time during working hours only to turn grey/wet in the evenings 

A complete and utter joke and it feels like nowhere else on Earth could have such a dire climate where there is constantly this ridiculous and irrational divide in weather conditions between weekdays and evenings/weekends. It's infuriating, depressing and sickening beyond words 

This year has been ridiculously unsettled with more rain days than last year despite a much lower rain total. Also the first year since 2015 in which no month has fewer than 10 rain days. Nothing even close with 12 rain days the lowest monthly total and not looking likely to be beaten with this horror August having rain every day so far

When you coming back? You will miss the good weather.  Yes there also lot of clouds around in the area that Darren goes because every time I go home in the last 3 weeks had been cloudy all the way.  Slough is not far from Reading so they get lot of clouds as well. 

Talked to my wife that I am happy with this set-up 32C in here with sunshine than cloudy then 40c then cloudy set-up.  Told her that what we used t get in the past slow rise to a heatwave then drop slowly back to average.  She going away on 20th August and return on 22nd Sept so she will not see those temps when coming back that time so make most of it.

Went down to 8.1C this morning so it feel quite cold feeling after weeks of mild 15-20C night temps.  

I've just been looking back over our sunshine data for this summer so far (I have used the data for Edinburgh Gogarbank for that) and they don't make for great reading at all.

We are now just over a week into this month which means that we are roughly a quarter (which is 25%) of the way into it. This means that for us to be on course to get a sunnier than average month, we would need to have had at least a quarter or our average August sunshine by now.

Yet as at 7am BST (06:00 UTC) this morning, we have had a total of just 27.4 hours of sunshine during this month so far, which is only 18.8% of our 1991-2022 August average, and we have been averaging just a rather pathetic 3.91 hours of sunshine per day during this month so far.

In order for this month to be sunnier than average overall, we will now need to be averaging more than 4.93 hours of sunshine per day between now and the end of this month.

That should be quite an achievable target, but we have been well short of that during this month so far, and it should also be borne in mind that that the days are now getting a lot shorter at an increasing rate which is therefore only going to make that task a lot more difficult.

Looking back over the rest of this summer, we had a total of 145.3 hours of sunshine during June which was 91.2% of our 1991-2020 June average, and a total of 146.3 hours of sunshine during July which was 90.9% of our 1991-2020 average.

Over the summer as whole, this adds up to 145.3 + 146.3 hours of sunshine plus that total for this month so far which as at 7am this morning, was 319.0 hours of sunshine and that is only 68.5% our 1991-2020 summer average.

So far during this summer, we have had an average of 319.0 ÷ (30 + 31 + 7) or 319.0 ÷ 68 which is 4.69 hours of sunshine per day but in order for this summer to be sunnier than average, we need to averaging at least 6.13 hours of sunshine per day between now and the end of this month.

That is already a very tall order which is made even tougher by the rapidly decreasing hours of daylight at this time of the year.

For such a high pressure dominated summer which has delivered very little in the way of rainfall, those are very poor statistics indeed and in fact, we have even had a number of easterly dominated summers (this hasn't been such a summer) in the past where just about every day has started off with a lot of easterly muck coming in from off the North Sea, but with those summers still ending up up being sunnier than what have witnessed during this year due to the manner in which the Sun has usually always broken though by those afternoons.

At the same time, the fact that we can't even get a sunnier than average in such a high pressure dominated summer which hasn't even had anything in the way (or at least, very much) in the way of any sort of cooling easterly winds from off the North Sea, let alone a sunnier than average summer shows clearly, it is obviously asking too much for us to be able to get any of that in this part of the world these days.

I’m back on the 20th so will miss the entire heatwave. Still, it’s pretty warm here too.

We have just about had enough rain here to keep things growing although the garden plants and grass could do with a bit more and that’s not happening in the coming days. Generally though it is looking warm, dry and mostly sunny for the coming week so no complaints.

'Moderate scarcity' shown  on the linked map for much of the east of Scotland doesn't even begin to describe what we are experiencing down here; and the significantly higher temps have completed the disaster.
