Heavy Weather 2013

Guys can we take the arguements on global warming to the UIA. This thread is for tracking the historic heat.

Yesterday's max now beaten with 38.7 C at 13.33 hrs. Levelled off again now. Hopefully temporary. I have never experienced 40C anywhere. Close to in Singapore and Adelaide but not quite.

What an immature response.

Trends in data are there in black and white. Debating is for opinions and theories. If someone refuses to accept a fact as a fact, then there is zero point in debating with them.

The cartoon I posted is directed at all the 'armchair AGW deniers'. Climate change and the science behind it is almost universally-accepted scentific fact. Climate scientists have studied climate & metoerological science for years through university and beyond, then worked with other similarly-knowledgeable and experienced climate scientists to learn even more.

Yet we have people whose scientific studying exteds to a GCSE in Combined Science (at best), telling those learned climate scientists that they've got it all wrong, based on nothing but 'a hunch' or what they've read by some [similarly unqualified] crank on Twitter or Facebook.

Or, worse, that the climate scientists are all part of some grand scientific conspiracy to con the public into believing climate change is real, so that they can all have super-paid jobs in the field of climate science.

Remarkable, the wind has just swung round to the NW from the Irish Sea, got stronger and knocked 4°C off the temperature in 10 minutes. Now a very fresh 32°C.

The overall trend is rising, but statistically speaking we should be going into a shorter cooler phase soon now.  Just going by our own data over here of course but I imagine UK data reads the same,  it seems that warmer and cooler phases peak and trough every 2 to 3 years or so. That's how I read it anyway which isn't to say that it is that clean cut either.

"Winter is coming"

Well, not 'winter', but certainly cooler temps as the cooler air moves NE'wards.

Hawarden on the Wales/Cheshire border has fallen from 36c to 33c in the last half hour. West of that, temps are down to mid-20's.

The Merseyside stations are stable at 36c for now, but will begin their decline; Manchester may squeak a 37c but it'll have to be quick.

Ah well, it's been a blast! (of furnace-like air)

Let's see what you guys further east can get to (hope somewhere takes the record off Heathrow!!)

Thats a good point. I counter with the fact this is 1 of many events over the past 2 decades that have driven us to mote frequent and extreme weather events. The record temp has been broken almost every other year in the past decade, starting in 2003.

Its quite easy to say this is isolated because you cant really record two or three seperate heatwaves for the same location on the same day... you have to look at frequency over time. In this case we have yet another major weather extreme..again... which speaks of frequency, which i think is what you are alluding to is missing?

Looks like it's peaked here at 39.8°. Beginning to fall away a touch. 38.9°.
I feel great! so maybe I might just
Search for a 9 to 5, if I strive
Then maybe I'll stay alive

Still ticking up here. I've just reached 40.5C which is the highest value today.

It does seem to be stalling a bit in the SE now, as the East Midlands starts to take the limelight. I notice nowhere automated at rounded 40C at 2pm. However, Kent may be different. The vineyard continues to creep up. 38.3C the last time I looked.

Want to experience hot house and to get a record indoors as well.  35C was the highest in 2003 now kitchen 37C as it facing the south and the hot air from the alleyway enter here by the door.  Just enjoy yourself and don't worry about me.  I have my own life.

I don't necessarily disagree but this sort of finger wagging, patronising attitude is what puts a lot of people off the sort of people who constantly appeal to authority in this manner. Whether you agree with the trend and others don't, it isn't going to make a blind bit of difference either way.

Exactly this!

I suppose at my ripe old age I should be aware that nuance in an internet forum is always lost!

BTW I love the fact that Jiries is doing the opposite to others and actively heating his house!

A rounded 40 still showing for Northolt but think we've hit our peak now. Be very surprised if the temperature rises here past 3pm

Cambridge will surely hit 40C. I suppose we won't get the Botanic gardens figure until tomorrow, i'm sure that will be 40 something.

Otherwise it's up to Lincs area to try get 40C+
