It's a given I think.

They'll have to make a decision tomorrow because level 4 is school closures I think. Parents will need a bit of notice.

it’s not a council decision it’s a heads of the school to make a decision it depends on a lot of things like local conditions of each classrooms ie sunlight, ventilation, Ac etc

The school I lock up for have already closed at lunch time this week Mon Tuesday

So, 46.3C in Portugal today.

https://twitter.com/extremetemps/status/1547283091416309763?s=21&t=RcoKTUfQkQVZ_m3epIEX-A

I had been sceptical of the maxes modelled for Central Portugal but it seems this was indeed more of a hotspot than Seville.

Similar temps tomorrow, and mid 40s for several days thereafter.

Monday is the day to watch for Western France. Could hit 45C. Overall not as intense a heatwave as the models were showing a week ago when it was due to be a more zonal pattern, but intense nonetheless.

40c showing on the GFS.

Quite simply the Metoffice needs to update the warning to red today. This is serious.

People on the comment section of things like the BBC are not taking this seriously at all. Mocking the warnings etc, talking about tanning in the garden. Anyone who goes out to tan in 40c will quickly find themselves scurrying back inside!

I knew it had to be there. All we need now are the stories about pigs getting sunburn and the polar bears at London zoo being given ice lollies to cool down.

My advice would be to stock up on ice, ice lollies, water and other chilled goods on Friday and Saturday. Come Monday supermarket fridges will either be empty because of excess demand or because they’ve broken down.

The refrigeration in my place has packed up at 32c before so 38c will almost certainly do it in.

Let me be clear. 38-40C is crazy dangerous, more so for anyone living outside of London. I’ve experienced this heat, and heatstroke is so unpleasant.

Plenty of people in this country will think great hot day…party.

I can assure you that the extent of heat mitigation in my place of work will be a Calippo and a bottle of water.

Not my photo, but it took an hour to drive from a certain school in Sittingbourne to the bridge. An hour to drive 4 miles, and that was before the queues really kicked in!

I filled up six 2-litre bottles at work yesterday, so at least I could flush the toilet this morning!

The school has reminded staff from the island (a good quarter or so come from there) that they can use school showers if needs be.

All I can say is thank goodness this all happened when it was "only" in the high 20s. If this happened next Monday/Tuesday instead there would have been all hell to pay.

EDIT: And the water's now back on. My goodness, I've never been so relieved to hear a toilet cistern filling!

iPhone app was showing 37C for London on Tuesday earlier but it has now ticked down to 36C for both Mo day and Tuesday. Surely still the hottest 48 hour period on record.

Good ol' Weatheronline (my optimistic forecast of choice) showing 41C for London on Monday.

AS for today, it looks beautiful: fresh morning, clear sky, strong sunshine, a cool breeze. I am going flat out airing and chilling the house in the next 3 days. We have a window of opportunity with coolish nights to get the indoor temperature down close to 20C and then shut up shop and hunker down from Sunday onwards.

After the heatwave can we have 2 months of today's weather?

Obviously a lot of the talk and excitement is around the national record but can anyone tell me what are the chances of local records being broken further north? I think we would be looking for over 34C around Manchester. I'm not a chart reader so can only go off the forecasts and right now both BBC and Met Office are going for a max of 33C on Tuesday

The internal fabric and ambient temperature is rising.

Its just a shame we can't retain this internal heat all through the winter months...we would save a fortune.
