Meanwhile 4 days down on the coast here in Sussex managed to deliver some sun on the friday but a cold, grey weekend thereafter. I would have happily paid double this weekend for the 3hrs or more of daily sun you so detest.

Yup that's right. He's actually complaining about it being sunny. And yet if it was dull & overcast he'd be moaning about 'permacast hell' and threatening to slit his wrists. He'll be complaining about it getting dark at night next.

Sun is finally out here after a ridiculously prolonged absence
Temp is mildish outside and warm enough inside for the heating not to need a boost (a bit of a benefit from the sun streaming through the window even at this stage perhaps??)
I'm sure it's probably pathetic and a miserable excuse for winter but I'll take it over the cold and grey which has been dominant of late !

Edinburgh hasn't been anything like as sunny as Aberdeen during this month, but I have just noticed that we only need a total of at 4.2 hours of sunshine during the last 5 days of this month in order for this month to go down as being sunnier than average overall at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Prior to that, we have to go all the way back to last July to find our last sunnier than average month there. That is quite a run of duller than average months which we have had and unlike Richard from Aberdeen, I'm just happy to see that come to an end (albeit, I would rather see that happen during the summer rather than just now when the darker nights causes that to have its minimum effects on the overall sunshine totals for the entire year).

Apart from that though, I will just be glad to see the back of this complete non-event that is this so-called "winter".

It has been the most boring and uninteresting winter which I have ever experienced, but I have been saying for months on end, that we just don't get changeable wather any more like what we used to and what this winter has done is to add a lot more weight to that arguement to the extent that others are also picking up on that as well (the fact that YouTubers such as Gavin P. and Mark Vogan are commenting on how boring and unteresting our weather is, shows just bad that has become).

We are going into a more desert-like and arid climate where it hardly ever rains any more. In years to come, I can see that leading to a lot of drought and water shortages even here in Scotland and let's not forget as well that we have a Scottish Government which is being led by Nicola Sturgeon who would very happily impose a national hose-pipe ban across Scotland as a result, at the earliest possible opportunity.

In addition to that of course, there is the constant lack of any sort of weather which is actually the least bit interesting with our weather being increasingly defined only by cloud and sunshine amounts alone, and this so-called "winter" has brought that to new heights.

Apart from the shocking lack of frosts during this winter as a result of the temperatures constantly refusing to drop at nights in particular, we also haven't had even a single bit of lying snow and whilst that is partly down to the mild weather, it is also obvious that even if it was actually cold here, it is never  going to snow if there isn't even anything falling out of the sky in the first place, which could potentially fall as snow as has been the case throughout this month in particular.

When you add all of that up, I have really had enough of this non-winter now.

Roll on spring (I have no doubt that all of the northern blocking which has been absent during this winter will return in time to give us a lot of torrential downpours and flash flooding events during the summer, just to show how typical our weather actually is).

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Looking at the XCweather map, only in the UK where a cold front causes a rise in temperatures.    But at the same time it should push away the stale airmass associated with our limpet high and introduce more in the way of clearer skies and better air quality today.

Yes same frontal that brought snow to Athens, Greece/Greek Islands, Cyprus and Turkey etc - just amazes me how far south the cold is going - furthermore Miami, southern Florida only 100 miles west of the Bahamas and surrounded by the tropical Atlantic ocean and warm Gulf of Mexico could see a frost on Saturday with temperatures falling down to 0c or -1c which will make it colder than London (51' N). This really takes the piss.

Saw it and Dan got more gray hair now than before.  Lot of interesting weather pattern around the world except here.

Feels nice and spring-like today, sunshine and 11C. I'll take this if we can't get snow.

Yes of course - and before you know it (Knowing the UK's luck) - the Bahama's could have colder weather and nights than here in the winter and they are only 100 miles or so to the east of Florida. What a paradox this would be eh?

Seriously this does take this piss a little. Agree?

Nice to see a bit of brightness today. The incessant gloom over the past week has made me a bit down (I'm sure I get SAD in winter), to be honest and so today has been a bit unlifting. Nearly at the end of January too and things always feel better once we hit February.

Heating in the car no longer needed as it already went warm enough due to stronger sun

The borefest of a winter continues - yet another overcast boring day so far and after a low of -1c cloud rolled in off the Atlantic (not to produce anything noteworthy of course but only to prevent a frost!).

Whilst the UK as ever misses out on the cold and snow/ or anything noteworthy to discuss- The cold air goes back to E and SE Europe and cold air continues into Scandinavia and this is after those area's have just had snow - Greece and Turkey, Cyprus and Israel (Jerusalem) etc to name a few.

Cold air is well and truly locked into the eastern 2/3rds of USA and this could perhaps be one of the coldest & snowiest spell eastern states has had in many years with a nor easter on the way with snow forecast as far south as South Carolina, to DC, to Philadelphia, to Baltimore, to NYC to Long island to Rhode Island to Boston, MA New Hampshire and then Maine - What is this some 1000 miles of snow and powdery snow and some 12" of it or more falling in very densely populated areas? Well I never!? Just to put this into perspective - that's like an area of snow covering Madrid to London or London to Rome! Think about that!

Its a tenuous comparison indeed trying to draw parralels between the UK & continental Europe/US, especially considering the unique climate we are blessed with in our Green & Pleasant Land.

Here in NE Sussex I don't think we've had any meritable snowfall since 2018 so this year seems to be a continuation of that trend (although i may stand to be corrected as i'm a distracted soul with a terrible memory!). Last years cold in late jan/feb was notable but the snowfall fell too far east to be of much interest. From a weather watching point of view that was the one that really broke my spirits and formed a calloused cynicism that will be hard to shift.

As a keen gardener and avid weather watcher i only care about one thing - certainty. The last 12months have been notoriously unpredictable in that regard.

*Although i should add this recent high has been reassuringly predictable, if not stubbornly so!!!

It just gets more and more ridiculous. Barely dropped out of double figures overnight and up to 13C

Now when the temperature should be rising, it's falling under an utterly vile and hideous whistiing, rattling wind

AWFUL, AWFUL winter. Pure GARBAGE.

It's the worst winter for cold since 1988/89. Still waiting for the temperature to even dip to -2.5C. 8-12C almost every day for 3 weeks and not even breached -1C since the 10th

Nearly February and there's still been less snow, less frost and a lower duration of frost than April managed. The latest hideous winter in a run of dross that is off the scale compared to anything we ever saw. Failing to achieve 5cm snow was a once in a decade occurrence. Now it's becoming the norm

Another snow storm in NE USA.

I’d be happy with just a few CMs of what they have had.

One day we will have a year when we several repeating easterlies.

I know the US is way more prone to get snow than us, but just once in my life I'd love the UK to get something comparable. 2 foot of snow and strong winds sounds amazing. Just hunker down for a few days whilst chaos reigns.
