I experienced 3 separate thunderstorms today in the Yorkshire Dales. First rain I've seen since 13/7 in Edinburgh. Quite novel to get wet!
The 13th of July was the last time that an official rain day was recorded at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
However that only came with a total of 1.2 mm of rain for that day with Edinburgh Gogarbank recording a total of just 0.2 mm of rain over the course of that same day.
I wasn't actually in Edinburgh on that day as I was down in the Scottish Borders where there was a couple of showers during that evening, but that was my one and only blot within what actually turned out to be my hottest and sunniest week down there since 2014.
As far as Edinburgh is concerned, our last significant rainfall across all three of my local stations came two days earlier on 11 July 2021, the day before the day when I travelled down to the Scottish Borders and as I write, we have still had no measurable rainfall here since 13 July.
With all of the hot weather which we have had, this has resulted in the ground becoming baked hard and solid, so we could really do with getting some rain now.
