This is now officially the worst start to Spring I have ever recorded and in fact the worst since 1996
I thought last week was bad enough with revolting grey skies, cold day temperatures and mild nights
This week another level of hideousness. The same suicide inducing grey skies and dire temperatures but with the added poison of wind and rain
Sunshine hours for the first third of March:
1. 2011 - 61.6
2. 2010 - 60.2
3. 2020 - 60.0
4. 2007 - 59.4
5. 2009 - 56.5
6. 2008 - 54.5
7. 2017 - 52.3
8. 2015 - 50.5
9. 2016 - 42.6
10. 2014 - 38.5
11. 2019 - 36.3
12. 2012 - 36.1
13. 2018 - 22.4
14. 2013 - 19.9
15. 2021 - 15.9
The situation is even more grim than the bottom of the barrel ranking would suggest given that almost 40% of the total was recorded on the 1st alone. Endless soul destroying grey muck day after day since then with a daily average of barely an hour's sunshine. Not a single day with sunshine during the peak hours of 12noon – 2pm. I'd go as far as to say it's the worst month in a toxic run since last October. Even December and January weren't this vile.
Unbelievable mind-numbing rubbish for a time of year when the weather should be at its most varied and interesting. I dread to think how bad this year is going to end up given that this is usually the time of year when sunshine levels get a boost prior to falling off a cliff as soon as the wretched season of 'summer' arrives.
Instead of being the typical 9 months of autumn, 3 months of spring, over the last decade, it's heading towards 12 months of autumn since the start of June last year. I'd be hard pressed to identify a more putrid run of months in my lifetime.
