I’d be more than happy if it stuck around 3.2c.  Although there will no doubt be an end of month adjustment.

Looks like finishing as the coldest Jan since 2010 then
Anecdotally I remember 2013 seeming colder as the very cold and snowy weather stuck around longer and was more severe , but I think there were mild spells which cancelled out, which this month has lacked by and large

I remember the mild spells getting widely well into double figures, so it really skewed the CET, despite the wintry spell in the middle.

If I end up only 0.6c out, then more than happy

At the moment I have no idea about February, but will have to make a guess in next 3 days

I remember mid Jan 2013's extreme cold very clearly as it coincided with me moving out from my always overheated parents home to a cool flat with poor insulation and myself paying for all the heating!
The subsequent chilly February and amazingly cold March made it feel like a long and harsh winter even though statistically the 3 month winter period doesn't stand out in the records compared to 09/10

Given my earlier requirements for feeling like it didn't turn out so bad in the end, it's bound to come in at 3.01°C .

Joking aside, Jan 2021 would be in my top 3 most disappointing winter months on record were it not for the few days of bright, cheerful weather followed by some snow last Sunday.

Aside from that it's been cloudy, variably very chilly to mild, increasingly wet. Poisons the soul. The polar boundary often being just 100 miles or so too far north hasn't helped with the mood - both in terms of local weather and the CET outcome.

Here's hoping February is brighter and less rainy down south - I could really do with it!

I'm always happy to be too high with my guess in a winter month, but January has certainly had its climatic frustrations down here!

I'm always happy to get an error margin of less than 0.5. Especially in a winter month. I'm pleased therefore with my 0.34 error this month.

Here's one peculiar quirk, the last notably above average January for an odd number year was in 2007 with 7.0C

2009: 3.0C

2011: 3.7C

2013: 3.2C

2015: 4.4C

2017: 4.0C

2019: 4.0C

2021: 3.1C

The even year Januarys  since 2010

2012: 5.4C

2014: 5.7C

2016: 5.4C

2018: 5.3C

2020: 6.4C

So it's been the coldest January since 2009, which I suppose says more about the lack of really cold Januaries in recent years than anything else. It would be nice if this January could be followed by a notable cold spell in February like 2009's was.
