Suggestions of some snow for parts later in the week and with some FI eye candy beyond that, a new thread that may last for only a couple of pages, or maybe multiple pages....who knows ?

Makes sense to have a monthly thread rather than several event focused threads.

Reports here, rather than discussion about prospects, please.

There are signs of some more westerly snow cover build up on the Continent now and coming days. Snow west of Moscow and into Belarus, Northern Ukraine, Czech Republic, Baltic States and Southern Germany. Southern Sweden, around Stockholm bereft of snow, as it was almost all of last winter, presumably because of the wind coming off the (these days) relatively mild Baltic.

Edinburgh is right on the edge of the snow warning areas for later today, Thursday and Friday. Should have some on our local hills!

That is just falling as rain here in the north of Edinburgh.

However, that is only our first significant rainfall here since 25 November which means that even that, is more "interesting" in terms of our actual weather than what we have been used to lately.

Sleet and wet snow is now falling here in the north of Edinburgh as I write.

EDIT:

Looks like I spoke too soon here, as that has now turned back to rain although there might still be some snow further inland from here and higher up (in the south of Edinburgh for example).

I've just woke up and I can report that it is now snowing here in the north of Edinburgh and that this snow is now lying here.with the temperature having dropped to 1°C as at 3am this morning.

That is already in complete contrast to last winter when we didn't even get our first snowflakes until the end of February. We did get a little bit of lying snow from that which came from the returning polar air mass behind Storm Ciara as that system moved away. Furthermore, that then quickly melted away and was the only lying snow which got at any time during that winter.

If this winter continues in the same vain though as what we are seeing just now, that will certainly make up for it.

1-2 cm of wet snow here which is on the point of freezing. The air temp is 0-1 C. Snow looks thicker up on the hill. So our first snow of the season on 3/12, I'll take that!

Good to see you guys in Scotland have got some snowfall.
Very quiet here with few showers. Further north there have been some heavy showers across the Dales and places like Hawes have a covering this morning.

A lot of the snow has gone here in the north of Edinburgh, but there are still a few bits of it on the rooftops and in grassy areas, with Arthur's Seat looking very white.

The clouds are clearing and I can see that the Lake District Fells out my front window are white as well as the Pennines behind, down to about 300m I would say. There was sleet around earlier at my spot but nothing now.

Yup, snow in South Edinburgh, about an inch - instantly turns to slush when I stand on it. Gritters nowhere to be seen, pavements now slippy but not lethal.
