Amazing the difference between Watford and Harpenden. I guess 15 miles can be quite significant when it comes to rainfall.

Light rain here this morning, following on from two wet days... 58mm of rain so far this month, which is impressive considering it's only the morning of the 4th. The lawn was still solid yesterday morning, but I would imagine now it would be rather squelchy to walk on.

It looks like the heaviest rain is reserved for areas further west this morning, meaning the wolves at the wolf centre will be very soggy today! Just as well the site's on a hill...

Still pouring with rain here, with the total since it started yesterday currently at 84mm.

At least we seem to be getting away with heavy rain and (so far) only moderate flooding, but you can see https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-54402096 why the French went for a named storm.

And the jetstream forecast (see MO thread) makes it look as if the same areas of S France and Italy will see more storms in the next week

A further 16.2mm so far today.

Total for October now stands at 109.2mm. All of that has fallen in the last 60 hours.

Already looking very likely that February will not be the wettest month of the year in these parts. The figure to beat is 152.6mm.

Total rainfall for the year now stands at 661mm

Still going, but for some reason not as much roof leaking as Friday night - perhaps because we have a westerly breeze. For some reason it leaks more when there is an easterly or no wind!

After virtually no effective rain since March there has been 70mm now this month and it's still chucking it down. This is virtually unknown for S.Essex. 14mm since midnight which doesn't tie up well with what they said on the News 24 forecast and the graphics yesterday evening. Seems to be hanging on much further East than predicted.

Yesterday was my wettest day since my PWS started recording on 01/01/2017, beating the previous record by a whole 9mm.

88.2mm of rain so far this month, makes it the second wettest month of the year so far. Only February (124.5mm) to beat, which it surely will given there's still 4 weeks to go.

What a time for my datalogger to die on the VP2, typical. Thankfully I have a WeatherLink Live to at least get some daily totals off and into Cumulus.

Friday saw 30.6mm - just shy of my daily record (only 4 years old since moving house)

Saturday saw 50.4mm - smashed the record

Sunday so far 22.8mm - stopped raining for now...

103.8mm in a 3 day period has caused the run off river from the field above us to start flowing again so the frogs will be happy at least. In the middle of installing new gates at the house and had the hole dug for the large post, we now have a 90cm deep plunge pool.

Looks as though the 3 day total rainfall at Kew is going to be 76mm (as it seems to have stopped now)

I have the daily data from this 5km area going back to 1958 from the Met Office UKCP09 and the previous highest 3 day total was 68.96mm from September 1968 so it would appear this is the highest 3 day total in 62 years (at least)

Dark clouds visible to the east, but we remain in clear, bright, even warm conditions in Lincolnshire in "the eye of the storm".

57.2mm yesterday making it the wettest I have recorded in 15 years. Previous wettest day was 3/9/09 with 54.4mm.

Peak 24 hour total was 71.0mm up to 6:35am today and the total this month has been 81.4mm which is almost at the monthly average already.

The wettest spell probably since September 1995 or possibly even October 1979 when Dyce recorded 92mm in 24 hours on the 4th.

Exactly 100 years since one of the major floods of the 20th Century as well which was focussed on Ballater: 184mm fell in Glen Muick from 1st to 4th October 1920. Haven't seen much reports of flooding this time. The River Dee was high and fast flowing but nothing like the storm in August.

We have seen numerous weather events repeating after exactly 100 years. The summers of 1912/2012, winters 1913/14 and 2013/14, June 1916/2016, winters 1919/20 and 2019/20. Now this. All bad events as well.
