We are making up for that dry spell in September! Awful stuff, going to get wet again coming back from pub

Yes, another 6.0mm has fallen in less than 2 hours. My total since midnight is now 37.5mm, less than 1mm off my record - though because of the Easterly wind direction, this is an underreporting, probably more like 50mm.

Here, it is just as heavy if not heavier than this morning. My rain gauge has recorded 3.6mm in the last 30 minutes (7.2mm/hour). Just equalled my station's all-time record of 38.4mm.

Three days of rain after a summer of hardly any rain in this part of the world is not making up for it. Having said that, it's an impressive radar return and a notable spell of weather. Hope you don't get too wet coming home from the pub. First world problems indeed.

Here in Edinburgh, the totals for this event so far as at 9pm tonight were now up to at least 29.4 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and at least 34.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Furthermore, it is still chucking it down here as I write.

Those are also our totals for this month so far which are already not all that far short of what we had during the whole of September.

lol! I don’t mind getting wet but I have a roof leak so I don’t want to have to spend another morning drying up. Yes, I know I need to get it fixed but I am selling up soon anyway so don’t want to spend any money on the house

Fixing the roof could add a few £££ to the asking price otherwise, though I understand you not wanting to shell out for a house you're moving out of.

If we assume that on average, rainfall over the last 2 days across the UK was 50mm. Based on the land area of the UK being approximately 242,500 sq km, that would mean that over 12 cubic kilometres of rain would have fallen over the UK.

My total since midnight is 43.2mm, since midnight yesterday 59.4mm. Having smashed my station's all-time daily record by nearly 5mm, can we make it to 50mm before midnight? It's looking close...

This is the 6th time this year that 30mm or more has been recorded in a day.

Heavy rain has returned to St Albans too. I'm surprised that nearby Rothamsted is already upto 71mm. Didn't think it had been that wet. Looking at the forecast through to Sunday evening I'm starting to wonder if we'll hit 125mm (5 inches) by then!?

The 2 day total for here in Kew is 55.4mm up till 22:00 tonight and it's still going

For this location not renowned for high rainfall totals this is only about the 8th occurrence of  a 2 day total over 50mm in the last 60 years

(and just to add to a fairly unpleasant day the roof has started leaking !)

just between Liss & Petersfield has seen over 100mm in past 48 hours according to the Met 

Amazing the difference between Watford and Harpenden. I guess 15 miles can be quite significant when it comes to rainfall.
