About to head into the 31s here. Light SE breeze as forecast. Humidity not too bad - 35%. Will inevitably be higher tonight though!

That area of cloud over the Channel is getting close. Looks like surface heating will be interrupted for a while. Hard to judge how long - an hour or so perhaps.

The cloud in the Channel has now reached Weymouth and is close to Swanage. Heading NNE. Hopefully it will stay away from the area around Heathrow until after temperatures peak.

Holding steady at 29.3c but with the source of air directly off the continent with a minimal sea track of 22 miles I expect the temperature to start climbing again in tandem with our French neighbours.

My friend Claude in Calais is cooking onions for his lunch today, its stinging my eyes !

31.3C here at 1pm. A rise of exactly 2C in an hour.

Heathrow on 33.5C at 1pm. Last Friday it was 35.7C at the same time. With cloud on the way I think 36C is going to be the limit.

Meanwhile it's 25C with mostly overcast skies here!

Good luck to those in the South East though, there's certainly the potential for some record, or near-record breaking temperatures this afternoon.

Interesting observation just as the cloud arrived here - a sudden jump in temperature to 32.5*C.

Levelled off now, might be my max for the day.

Certainly still rising fast, up from 31.3 at 1pm to 32.8 at 1.38pm. But the cloud bank in the distance is getting ever nearer....
