I just don't get how a relatively mediocre airmass can produce these exceptional temperatures. Temperatures arn't even that exceptional across France so even low level WAA doesn't quite explain it.

Must have something to do with soil moisture and the dry spring. Must do, otherwise this kind of thing would be alot more common.

It's a combination of the dry soil (even drier in Spain and France) and the interaction of the wind flow with topography. Just look how the highest temps will be south/southwest of the Downs this weekend when the low level flow changes.

Working in the garden all morning and it's absolutely beautiful. I think I'll have a cocktail instead of lunch.

Yes going to the post office facing westward saw those clouds over Birmingham area but now heading this way so lost interest now and only 24C so tall order to get to 32-33C forecast here . Clouds and 32C does not work in this country only in hot countries can get low 30's and cloudy.  Look like the heatwave will be cancelled today.

This is important. Later today the winds will turn SE we will likely tap into that. Steve (Gusty) could see a great rise later on today.

Let's hope these are the proper thunderstorms we used to see. A heatwave with no desserts at the end really does grind my gears.

Where are you getting the intermediate figures from between hourly readings?

29C here according to weather.com, and a forecast maximum of 35C. I don't think I've ever seen a temperature that high here. We'll see...
