As we have just entered into a brand new season, I believe that it is a good idea to get this thread underway. Since this summer has got off to a sunny start, I don't really have anything to moan about just now. However, that could easily change and I am in no doubt that others (especially Richard from Aberdeen) will have plenty to moan about during this summer. This is therefore, the very place for that.

A new season, and a change in conditions to 'absolute rubbish'.

Don't know what the summer will be like overall, but I hate those years with a great spell of warmish, dry & sunny weather in spring that deteriorates into an iffy summer after so much promise.

I suspect there will be little activity in here wrt to moaning at least for the next few days, after that I imagine it will become a lot busier! In the Model Output Discussion thread the first 3rd of summer has already been written off, mere hours after the season started!

What a great spell of weather it has been. Hopefully it’s a short blip but these NW’ly spells have been a key part of some the poor summers in NW England over the last decade. Day after day of clears starts which quickly cloud over giving light showers, with blue skies returning for sunset.

The Ying and Yang of weather.

At least it will be mild!

I have indeed started posting.
I think it will be a summer if two halves, and I do believe June will be largely cool and unsettled.
I think there will be improvement into July and August, but summer will be average at best this year.

The charts at the moment are as bad as they can get for warmth in June, there is nothing positive to say about what is coming up unless you like it cold and wet.

Last few years the weather has deteriorated majorly in time for the schools to break up for summer holidays. This year it looks like it'll happen in time for the schools to return after lockdown instead. Perhaps time for it to improve again into late June and early July before deteriorating again for the summer hols.

Last time we had a summer that was overall better (warmer, drier and/or sunnier) than average, and August was the best month, was 2003. The few times August has been the best summer month in recent years have been rubbish summers overall.

Ah yes, the classic 'too bright to last' scenario. NW winds are of course poor for us here unless it's winter and the airstream is cold enough and it's snow you're after.

Could do with a drop of rain so I can ease up on watering pots and tubs every TWO days.

Others just get wet.

Well summer has certainly got off to a very good start. If it continues like this I will be happy!

Clearly it won't though. Long way back to warm and settled once the change sets in. Possibly in July.

Part of me is pleased there's a bad spell coming up. Firstly it'll cut down on the number of idiots having BBQ parties or big gatherings on the beach/in parks; secondly, the furloughed people are treating this like a huge expenses-paid holiday.

And keep off the moors with your disposable BBQs! There have been more fires in the past few days, it must be absolutely tinder dry up there at the moment.

Yes indeed.  I was thinking how nice it’s been for kids to enjoy such lovely weather while they’ve been off school for a change.  August has been the worst of the summer months in recent years to coincide with school holidays.  It’s been a particularly dry Spring here, so a week of rain really won’t go amiss.

There’s nothing clear about it at all.  It looks unsettled for a few days but what happens after that leaves to be seen!  The last two summers have been above average but even then we had short spells of cooler temps and rain.

You should start entering the CET competition if you can confidently predict an entire month's weather like that!

I'm definitely looking forward to some rain here.  I've been watering some part of the garden every evening for several weeks, racking up my water bill.  And plants that I've never had to water before (notably blackberries) have needed extra water as they have started wilting in the baking sunshine and desiccating wind.  The soil is so rock hard (it's a heavy clay) that if I want to get a fork into it I have to water the patch for 20 minutes the night before, and then it is bone dry again a few days later.
