Also as it's based on what you declare if you have done lots of cash in hand work etc. you'll only get paid for the limited amount you've declared through your books. I know someone who got caught by that, which I wasn't particularly sympathetic about.

From what has been said it sounds quite tight but presumably if it is based on last years tax return you could claim loss of earnings by getting paid in cash this year then getting that plus loss of earnings?

Edit. Should work quite well because like Trump they are not keen on HMRC poking around in their tax returns!

Do they also 'suffer' from our reporting where some days are notably lower, before rising again. Maybe compare the week before, or moving average.

Today's report not yet out. Here's yesterday's:

The current estimate is R= 0.94 (95% prediction interval: 0.79 - 1.10) and is based on electronically notified cases as of 12/05/2020, 12:00 AM. The estimate of the reproduction number R has been slightly above 1 in the last few days, which shows that the decline in the number of new cases we have observed in recent weeks has levelled off and may be reaching a plateau. So far we do not expect to see an increasing trend again. The slowdown in the decline in new cases is also related to local outbreaks, for example in the vicinity of slaughterhouses. Moreover, since case numbers in Germany are slowly decreasing overall, these outbreaks have a greater impact on the value of the reproduction number R than if total case numbers were higher. Overall, therefore, the development of the number of new cases must be observed in the next few days in order to rule out a merely temporary slowdown in the decline. Statistical uncertainties are represented by the prediction interval.

Interesting that new cases in London have slowed to a trickle compared to the rest of the country. Maybe a combo of most people socially distancing responsibly and some kind of pseudo herd immunity amongst the rest? (Just a theory: say London Covid infection % was 10%, but amongst 80% who had been socially distancing it was 2% (1.6% of total population), but amongst 20% out and about it was 42% (8.4% of total population) would that give the 20% who haven't been in proper lockdown some kind of group immunity? also would suggest release of lockdown will lead to a rise in cases quite quickly in London

Another question I have is what has happened to the plans for social distancing on trains and buses? Last week the media was full of reports about limits of approx 15 people per train carriage being imposed by the government. Is that happening?
