So that – all told - we are testing literally hundreds of thousands of people every day."

Line two follows line one, and it's pretty obvious that's the case.

You must be very disappointed.

Even you must accept this is confusing.

But any increased infection numbers that are masked in the greater capacity for testing won't show up until a patient requires hospital care, which isn't straight away. There are a good few of us on here expecting a spike in a few weeks.

I believe that IKEA was always allowed to open. They chose to close down before lock down.

Given that I haven't posted much on here it's rather pathetic of you to ascribe a view to me that I don't hold.

I didn't want Johnson to win the Tory leadership and I'm a remainer.

Tbh, the teaching unions have got very little power. If the government and school management want schools open schools will be open, PPE or no PPE.

I'm not sure what the big deal is about exercising as much as you want. Who was actually timing it before? What difference does it make either way. Most people didn't do any before anyway!

If you can go to work you should, but avoid public transport.

Crazy. How are people meant to get to work then in London?

Increased fines for the flouters, like the idea of that if they can enforce it. Some enthusiastic county police will be chomping at the bit on that one!

My understanding was always that if social Distancing could be maintained, then the activity could continue.  It is obvious that was not possible in a lot of the hospitality industry  and a lot of factories that have a high density of workers. Our local pub is operating  a 'phone order take away service and some pubs are selling take away beer - that's fine.

If social distancing can't be attained then it will not be possible to resume activities  - and this was maybe why they  stopped in the first place.

I can't see that much has changed to be honest - but concede that the message has become  less straightforward.

Important to note though that you are now allowed to go out and sunbathe etc, and drive to exercise.

We’ll suddenly see parks and national parks getting much much busier.

I thought there was quite a lot of conciliatory stuff in there as well. I didn't much care  for "And if we are to control this virus, then we must have a world-beating system for testing potential victims, and for tracing their contacts." Why do we always have to beat everybody else ? I want a high standard testing system that works equally well for everybody in this World.

Yes, I agree with everything you said, including the world beating bit!  Why does everything have to be compared with other countries, as if Covid 19 is an Olympic sport?  Even this forum is obsessed with comparing us to others!

Its a bit of a sweeping statement , surely each school has to have the capability to keep social distancing?
