I am willing to support an ease of lockdown in three weeks. However, HMG has to get its act togeather in a big way

The briefings earlier this week to the media have complete destroyed the messaging and may have put us backwards. The lockdown has been fraying around the edges for weeks.

I know hindsight is a wonderful thing, but it was clear after the first three weeks that we should have gone all in and banned even leaving the home without good reason. If we had done that we would probably be in a better position now. France, Spain and Italy did it and they appear to be in better positions now because of it

Thank you for that

Just come off the phone from Mum , Neville's temperature was over 100 , then went back down for 18 hours but then went through the roof and it went downhill after , this seems common with the virus . A colleague of mine had it and said he thought he was over it then deteriorated quite badly , this was 4 weeks ago and he still feels totally out of it.

I told Mum , once  Neville gets home then you can relax.

Is he on assisted breathing?

Have you worked out how he could have caught it?

He isn't at the minute but my Aunt said his voice was so frail - almost a struggle .

No , that's the thing , no one has a bloody clue , my money is on mowing the front lawn .

Food deliveries have all been left on the door step.

Its quite frightening really , people think they have everything covered then bang!

As long as people aren't criticised en masse for expressing a desire for the lockdown to be eased. It is absolutely ok & understandable to be sh*t scared about losing your job, your business or your house.

I know you know this.

For the love of God, let's hope there's some light at the end of the tunnel soon and we can reach a compromise of some sort.

A lot on here wouldn't agree, Joe

There are no 'right' answers with this. Whichever way we turn, it is going to be painful. But HMG and the BoE could and should pay everybody £2.5k a month to stay at home and pump hundreds of billions into supporting business through this. We are about to enter a deflationary spiral and so printing money has never made more sense. We should stop worrying about national debt and kill this virus by extending lockdown for another six weeks.

Yes, that is probably true, but we don't have the security infrastructure to enforce such a lockdown, nor the social care structure to get vital supplies to people who need it. In China, they delivered food rations to your home and flew drones on the streets to catch anyone leaving their home. South Korea had a sophisticated test and trace infrastructure in place very early on, a plan they had put in place after SARS in 2003. The plan worked.

We had the Cygnus report in 2016 making recommendations to deal with a pandemic. Our Govt just ignored it

Either people have let their guards down due to the bank holiday or due to Thursday's papers but I cannot believe what I'm seeing down my road at the moment.

People out mingling between households less than one meter apart, kids out all day etc. I've honestly never seen it  this busy in 15 years, let alone during 'mockdown'.

I fear the chickens will well and truly come home to roost in three weeks time🙁.

Hopefully his body is fighting it off. Are they giving him any other drugs or plasma treatment? I don't know if Remdesivir is allowed in our hospitals, but I would take it if offered

Shows how contagious this virus is, if he can still catch it without leaving the house. Perhaps it was on the food packaging. If he was outside mowing the lawn, did he get close to passers by?

Yes, John. I fear you are correct. There will be be a second spike in a fortnight to three weeks. All totally avoidable and catastrophic both for society and 'the economy'.

This is English exceptionalism at its most tragic.

Both my side neighbours and the back neighbours are doing VE stuff in their gardens with strangers I haven't seen before. I was in ASDA earlier and it was packed out, they were letting in far too many people and there was no social distancing and most people were ignoring the one way system. There was a  fat chav couple coughing everywhere and as much as I tried to avoid them, they kept appearing in my vicinity!

The lockdown has broken thanks to the govt briefing the press

Same here. We had a street party which I attended for about 90 mins. I didn't want an alcoholic drink because I'm doing a Zoom beer festival tomorrow evening. Thank God. Most people were drinking and it was all very jovial as is always the case. In fact to the extent that it seemed completely normal days had returned or never departed. Kids were running around and adults were congregating in groups as the alcohol started taking effect.

Not sure on the treatment I have asked Mum

Just had a conversation with her about the food deliveries my Uncle and Aunt were getting , they were washing all packaging BUT the carrier bags they folded up and put away …………….My money is firmly on that now

I’d estimate there’s been about 30k new cases this week (and the week before and the week before etc).

Even though the percentage of positive tests are down that’s still a football stadium worth of new people each week with the virus, capable of spreading it around.

Yes, our Sainsbury’s has been fantastic too. I went last week about 8.15pm and had the place to myself (don’t think many realise the opening hours are back to normal).

One of the attendees is a matron at Stoke Mandeville.   Also we had a hospitalisation a couple of weeks ago (lose track of time but I think that's about right) and although the person was quickly discharged it should have been an eye opener.
