Given that many people seem to be ignoring the lockdown and social distancing, I strongly suspect that the rate of infection is increasing again. I simply do not understand how HMG can have messed this up so spectacularly. It is an absolute clusterf*ck and virtually guarantees that the misery is going to go on and on in this country.

Everybody here is expecting the garden centres to open next week. Can you imagine what these places will be like if that turns out to be the case? There will be mayhem despite whatever social distancing measures the centres try to put in place. People will be desperate for veg plants, particularly. I don't see how this can be policed.

Also, I am pissed off today. There is a family in garden. They are having a BBQ with people clearly not from their own home. It’s infuriating for two reasons. I’m stuck on my own and they are making it worse for everyone else.

The government at their ‘sources’ have completely messed up the messaging.

Yesterday was the busiest day in work since pre lockdown and social distancing had seemed to have gone out of the window. People crossing paths etc.

I would have that a one word change in the message might have made a difference. Not you should stay at home etc., but you MUST stay at home etc.,......but then what do I know ?

The problem with enforcement of course is there aren't sufficient resources and deployment of what has been available, doesn't seem to have been properly focused - it's been very hit and miss, whether that's down to the police service or lack of guidance from the Govt, I'm not sure we know.

You wake up and sometimes have to remind yourself this is not a bad dream. Your house looks pretty much the same, wear the same clothes you have been. Now, after queueing can still get the food you always had. Unlike a war, the only visible evidence is you hear about the poor people dying, from a TV or the press or internet.

I think they should do ads that are quite disturbing like for rabies or HIV etc. They rammed it home. All we hear is protect lives, protect the NHS etc, but they need a new message now, one that hits home!

O'Brien on LBC has started taking regular calls from relatives of victims and allowing them to tell their stories. Its quite horrific and even a cynical git like me cant help but be moved by the harrowing accounts.

Not forgetting that the majority of those will be historical.  The actual figures for deaths occurring yesterday could take weeks to get reported.

If my understanding is right, the number of deaths that is reported each day is the number of death registrations that have taken place within the preceding 24 hours where Covid-19 was deemed to be either the direct cause or a contributory factor in the death of a person, and not the number of people whom have actually passed away in the space of 24 hours.

Update on my Uncle , pneumonia in one lung but spoke to my Auntie on the phone for a very short while but that's good.

It was my Uncle who got me interested in the weather , he worked all around the world for the Met Office , finishing at Bracknell .

Oh we have noticed how little output from media has been intended to scare people witless about a disease which barely affects the majority under 60
They should double down then maybe lockdown can be made the new normal for a decade or so.

It will take a decade to repair the damage already done as it is.
Far more will die early from the effect of deliberately destroying large swathes of the economy than could ever have died from CV-19

Infuriating, HW. Last week we had idiots in the middle of the village burning an enormous smoky bonfire related to some building work. We know the nation is being hit by a pulmonary infection and seriousness correlates with air pollution so - doh - let's have a bonfire. We're locked down and want to get into the fresh air by the door, and you can't see owt for smother. Do we have to have qualifications is stupidity these days? I keep wondering!

Indeed, Marcus, many sympathies to you and your family...must be an extremely anxious time....I’m aware of several folk in the public eye who have been fighting within an inch of their lives against this dreadful virus...and no doubt,many many more...e.g the great Michael Rosen...I believe he has been in ICU for weeks now....My brother in the States had the virus very badly. Hs is now on day 52 of the virus....he at long last has made some improvements but still a very, very long and bumpy road to anything like a partial recovery....It was only 48 days until he managed 20 paces outside his house into their yard....

But they could do that with the flu, or RSV (kills thousands in UK each year),and it would have the same impact.
