That is the number of new deaths that PHE have announced for England today. How is that fake news? There were also 21 deaths in Scotland, Wales and NI, making the total of 180.

That's what it says on the government's dashboard, and it's not the first time they've got the numbers wrong on there!

I think maybe that total new cases is for England only, and they've not included new cases in Scotland, Wales and NI?

No, that’s what I thought too but really, these deaths are just numbers to us but to their families, they’re so much more!  It doesn’t matter when these deaths are counted, it makes no difference to us.  Simply ‘wanting to know’, comes second to ‘needing to know’.  I can see the reasoning, although I think the delay is more to do with the reporting process, than letting relatives know.

It restricts it, true. But an example would be that I am a keen wildlife photographer. If I take my daily exercise with an isolated walk in the Country and take my camera with me and am seen I get the distinct impression that I will be frowned on compared to somebody taking their dof for a walk.

Its crazy. I am not sure how they are not double checking what they are reporting.

The confusion may be down to the wording in news reports.  There’s a difference between 159 people have died today and 159 deaths have been reported today.

Did you see the hospital trains. Two high speed TGV trains have been converted for ICU transportation.

I am watching the briefing on iPad. So not sure if it’s just my platform. But is anyone seeing the slides they are showing?

If your numbers are correct the positive rate is about 36%.

Its a confusing mess Brian. You have the dashboard showing confirmed cases as different to PHE on Twitter.

Tests were nowhere near 9k according to official updates today.

Government will be spending 75m getting Britons back from abroad.

Lots of confusion around testing and confirmed cases

If any country claims to have exact numbers for testing or even more so for deaths then they are either rounding or lying. Normally it would take days or weeks to have these numbers published, to attempt to do it daily (as the public will expect) can only deliver an estimate. The numbers should not be used to extrapolate a trend, rather as others have mentioned, a smoothed running average over a period of days should be used.
