There, I’ve done it. Somebody had to.

The only question I have is: were this week's frosts late autumn ones, or early spring ones?

We had a winter only 2 years ago.  Not expecting another one any time soon!

The daffodils in next door's garden are now in flower, also a cotoneaster bush in my west-facing garden is starting to green up with new shoots.

To be honest, winter has never really even started here.

An event can only be considered as being "over" if it had got underway to begin with and then came to an end.

Since this winter didn't even start here to begin with, it can't then be considered to be "over" since this is an event which never even happened in the first place.

You're lucky! We barely got that, just three or four 1 or 2cm (or less!) dustings of snow that didn't last beyond 24 hours.

But yeah, my hopes for the winter have been packed away for another year.

Only 24th is showing possible snow.

Slipping on to March - of course this is guesswork - it looks milder, but with snow indicated for 12th, 24th and 28th. I appreciate this a just a bit of fun and not to be taken as reliable - but if not true this is at least credible, based on the current winter. But as I stress, I am not a meteorologist and am just applying a vaguely scientific eye to easily-available information - so your superior take will always be fascinating."

Looking at Met check now any hint of snow has gone for my location.

My hopes of snow this winter have evaporated.

Starting a 'Winter is over' thread is a bit like appointing a 'Minister for Drought' - sod's law will guarantee the opposite result!

It never began! Daffodils nearly out here over a month earlier than usual.  0/10 id be surprised if anyone on this forum could give this winter more than that so far.

That reminds me as well, of those occasions in the past where someone has started a drought thread on this forum, only for the heavens to then suddenly open quite soon afterwards. However, I'm not sure that this will be the case this time with our winter weather, especially with the Planet going through its current warming process as it is just now.

I've seen more frost in April than I have this winter so far. For the winter to be over, it has to have started... so far we've had autumn, darker autumn, and it's heading into spring.

I was swatting away some flies in the back garden earlier, while admiring the daffodils which have popped open in the past day, along with a couple of roses in the front garden. What with the birdsong, it really feels like spring.

last weekend was fantastic winter weather... crisp, a decent frost by Chichester's standards... sadly now back to anticyclonic gloom... I might be able to muster a 1/10 for the "winter".... Ongoing reports on the Sussex Ornithological website of a house martin that has not migrated south and is presumably still finding enough flies to feed on...I've heard of the occasional swallow over wintering here but not a House martin before... Don't have daffodils out yet. but the buds are showing...a few crocuses out..no doubt won't be long before the Lesser Celendine appear... Strange times indeed for mid January!

One thing I’ve noticed is the dawn chorus seems to have started up - blackbirds and song thrushes are now singing, when it wasn’t until February last year when that happened.

Surely it should be called “did winter ever begin thread?”

Truly obnoxious, rotten and thoroughly depressing, certainly currently in the top five of worst winter letdowns I’ve ever experienced in my 50 years on this planet.

The problem with this thread is it isn’t over - there is plenty of winter left cold bottled up a slight warming could release it. I am a little confident it will happen

The only place on the planet that is cold atm is Florida. So I guess we need a really strong southwesterly to bring us anything wintry?

The dozens of local sparrows around my house have been chirping on a daily basis all through this "Winter", even when it was dull and wet. Although they are spoilt with bird feeders, I get to see loads of fat balls in other people's back yards.
