Flashing away on FB as breaking news so I guess its official now.
if that’s true then it really is astonishing and also very worrying
Just in, the UK's December record may have been broken in Scotland on 28 December. A provisional maximum of 18.7C was recorded at Achfary, according to the Met Office:https://twitter.com/metoffice/status/1212043438268567553

Truly stunning! Ends a remarkable year of warm records being smashed.
Just for contrast, Delhi has just experienced its coldest day on record (since 1901) - max day temp 9.4C

FWIW Previous cold record 9.8C was in 2013. Topsy-turvy stuff
Sonndalsora in northern Norway has set a new January record with a high of 19.0c
It (Sunndalsørain) is in western Norway not the north and another prime location for a Föhn effect.
That was yesterday, today on the Norwegian live cams it's white out conditions at Molde & Geiranger & very stormy! Also below 0c.
Still quite remarkable for early January at close to 63 degrees north and considering it exceeds the highest maxima recorded there for December, February or March.
Indeed looking at the annual graph, it is about the same as the average maximum for the hottest month (July)
Quite amazing
I believe I'm right in saying that the Norway record maximum for January is now higher than the UK record, which one wouldn't have expected.
Bigger mountains?
Precisely. At a SALR/ DALR difference of 5C per km, each 1000m of altitude offers a 5C temperatre increase on either side of the mountains. Scotland's high ground can't beat this by much.
Definitely some crazy Foehn effect goings on. But I think we can all agree that climate change has made the temps more extreme though.
Yes, and hence when they have fohns they can have a bigger effect. But of course they're usually starting from considerably colder air upwind of the mountains than is the case in the UK.
16c at Liverpool AP that's a date record.
Met Office have Murlough 15.3c yesterday still a date record.
Interestingly today has the lowest max temp record of the whole year at just 14.9c , could well beat it today.

Nothing higher than 12C (rounded) showing on the maxima so far but of course at this time of year the max can come at any time of day or night.
Sunny today but warm and windy.
Doesn't feel like Jan at all
Insects all over the place and tulips coming up now
