Latest finishing CET mean for December is estimated by my calculations to be 6.02C. A very warm final few days of the month.

It feels like a small inversion is setting up under this high with slightly suppressed temperatures than previously estimated ?

I need a 5.5 to 5.9 finish to beat WI's record error margin of 5.99 and I'm beginning to believe I have a crack at this now.

Today's update maintains it at 5.8c.

I'd be interested to know if the recent anticipated finish of 6.02 has been revised now GW. Cheers.

It has been revised downwards. Now just 5.82C. So the record is very much on.

Well, having held the all time record since 2016 has been an honour. Steve is homing in on not only the 2019 crown but also the all time minimum error.  I think that the all time minimum error remains in the balance, depending upon the degree of downward correction.

I do think the lack of clear nights may reduce the downward correction this month, possibly quite emphatically, but probably not enough to keep the CET at 5.92 or greater, as GW has indicated, a finish in the region of 5.85 seems probable.

Its going to be a photo finish Phil.

A CET finish of less than 5.58 or greater than 5.92 - means you retain the minimum error title.

A CET finish of 5.49 or 5.91 results in a tie.

A CET finish of between 5.5 to 5.9 means the minimum error title transfers to me.

May as well take a little look ahead... probably going to continue taking part, I guess it's my one and only gambling addiction, except it's totally safe money-wise .

Approx. CET means (*C) for 1st week of Jan from the latest four 06z and 12z GFS runs (been up too late for 00z runs each day; not well):

4.8

3.3

6.3

4.8

A spread of 3.0 for just 7 days into the month.

Good luck everyone!

Fantastic

I'm utterly rubbish at it, but love the competition.

I just thought with you being so snowed under (pity not literally!!) at times again this year that you might knock it on the head, or hand over the baton to someone else.

Great to hear you're carrying on.

And all the best of luck to everyone for 2020.

GW is Mr CET, so it just wouldn’t be the same if he handed over the baton.
