Up close to an inch as the day ends.

Not sure exactly how much has fallen but a local station to my west is on 22mm now for today and most of that has fallen this evening - i can say though the heaviest rain has been east of that location so i suspect closer to 25mm for here.

We had a very wet night. Just checking on local stations and Heathrow seems to have got 18mm. No numbers for st James park or Northolt. It felt wetter than that, but I don’t have a rain gauge.

Yet again we’ve missed out on heavy rain and thunder!  We had some light drizzle yesterday morning and enough rain in the night to wet the roads but not enough to produce puddles!

Overnight we had the first rain of the month, indeed first for 24 days since 25th June, with a very welcome 19.1mm.  Now all we need is another 27.8mm this month to reach the July LTA, and around 200mm in addition to make up the cumulative deficit compared to LTA for the last 18 months.

Ended up with a very useful/welcomed 32 mm last night - the first significant rain for this month at my back yard. Just hope my brown-looking beloved lawn has a chance to green up before the hot weather set in.

If we can get the full impact here of tonight's thunderstorms, my next detailed report here may well be the one which confirms that this month is wetter than average overall at both Edinburgh Gogarbank and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh even though another 12.0 mm of rain is still needed for this month to be officially confirmed as being wetter than average at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

At the very least, I would expect the botanic gardens in Edinburgh to be confirmed as being wetter than average during this month as only another 2.4 mm of rain is needed there for that to happen.

In any case, the Met Office forecasts for this coming weekend are now looking more unsettled than what they were not too long ago which means that even if tonight's thunderstorms don't confirm this month as being wetter than average here, next weekend's forecast precipitation if it occurs, may well do so.
