It's been raining here for several hours now, and it's still raining as I write.

The result of this is that in the end, a total of 7.8 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 7.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This not only means that yesterday will therefore go down as an official rain day at both of those stations, but this also makes yesterday the wettest day of this year so far at both of those stations.

Despite all of the cloud cover though, it is a lot colder than of late and so, the temperature at midnight was 3.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 3.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Some extremely heavy radar returns on the south coast at the moment, and pretty heavy here too, with the heaviest stuff on the way.

The overnight rain which was brought about by Storm Freya has now cleared away and although there is still a lot of cloud around, it is very slowly, starting to brighten up a bit with the Sun starting to make an appearance.

However, that has resulted in a total of 2.4 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning, along with 2.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that today will go down as yet another official rain day at both of those stations.

It is also colder this morning than what it has been for a while, although still not cold enough for any frost.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 2.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 3°C at Edinburgh Airport and 3.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 4.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

A fairly bright morning means that a total of 2.1 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far as at 12 noon.

However, the wind has picked up again with maximum gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank of up to 31.1mph from the west as at 12 noon.

In addition to that, there is now a bit more in the way of cloud and there was even a very brief passing shower of rain just a short while ago, although that didn't come to anything.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 7.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Quite an impressive squall has just arrived, with very gusty winds and heavy rain with hail. Short and sharp, three or four minutes and it's brightening again from the west.

After what has been a fair & dry, if somewhat fresh, morning, it's now cloudy with spitty rain blowing about in a brisk westerly breeze.

As a result, the current 7.9 c & 83% h are feeling rather cold & fresh for it. Yet on this moment exactly last week, it was exactly 10 c warmer.

Here in Edinburgh, it's a lot quieter now with the wind having died down again after having reached maximum gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank of up to 33.6mph from the west.

Apart from some cloud at times during this afternoon and the odd very brief passing shower, it has been a fairly bright day and in the end, a total of 6.5 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Now, the temperatures are dropping away quite nicely under those clear skies and so, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 4.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 3°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
