It's now much cloudier here in Edinburgh with the temperatures refusing to drop as a result of there being too much cloud around.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 6.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

We had a little bit of rain during the early hours of this morning but as is the norm these days (especially when compared to elsewhere in the UK), the amounts from that have been very small once again and so, a total of just 0.4 mm of rain has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning, along with 0.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

As I write, there are some clear skies around, but it is a mostly cloudy morning overall.

However, it did get a bit colder in the end than what I had expected it to, although it's still not quite cold enough for an official air frost at any of my three local stations.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 1.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 0°C at Edinburgh Airport and 0.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The sun is out which is a welcome sight after 3 days of low cloud, mist/fog and drizzle/rain, even the brisk west wind is doing us a favour by drying everything up quickly. However, the 8.9 c felt quite cold & fresh when I popped out to rescue the freshly emptied wheelie bin.

Today has just been a return to that same old borefest which we have had to endure for most of this winter with all of the more interesting weather being elsewhere in the UK other than here as usual.

This morning has just been one massive grey, overcast and at times, fairly misty nothingness with nothing which is even remotely interesting in terms of our weather actually happening.

It did brighten up for a very brief period just a short while ago, but nothing in the way of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 0.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 0°C at Edinburgh Airport and 0.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 5.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 5.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, although it feels colder for some unknown reason (since there is very little in the way of wind, that can't be down to wind chill) than what it actually is.

The Sun has eventually broken through and a total of 2.1 hours of sunshine has now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon.

However, it has now become much cloudier from the west once again and there was also a fairly heavy shower of rain a short while ago although this hasn't yet registered as actual recorded rainfall at any of my three local stations.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 7.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Today has ended on a mostly cloudy note so that in the end, a total of 2.1 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

There also continues to be the odd shower around. These are heavy at times, but also very brief so that they have only increased today's rainfall total so far as at 8pm this evening to 0.8 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 0.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Today's maximum temperature was 7.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The temperatures have dropped during this evening when the skies have been that bit clearer, but they have been refusing to drop during the last hour or so due to there being too much cloud around and with Storm Erik due to arrive on these shores by tomorrow morning, I'm not expecting any frost here tonight.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was .4.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
