A cold start to this morning with an official air frost at all three of my local stations. The Sun was out a short while ago, although there is still a lot of cloud around after one or more showers during the early hours of this morning left us what is only our first dusting of snow of this entire winter in this part of the world.Last night's overnight minimum temperature was -1.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -2°C at Edinburgh Airport and -2.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was -0.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -1°C at Edinburgh Airport and -0.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
Should have been the outright coldest but yet again pointless cloud spoiled things. Up to -2.0C now with the dregs of Sunday night's snow remaining.

The snow that settled here yesterday evening is still there this morning, and I can see that the fields on the Sevenoaks Ridge are still white. Where the snow had melted the water has frozen and there is a lot of ice around, especially on the windscreen of my car, which is solid ice that will take some thawing out.

Sparkling winter sunshine which picked out the slight snow cover on them thar hills. 4.0 c & 82% h from a low of 0.2 at 8 am. Winds are very light so there's not much in the way of wind chill (can easily feel the warmth of the low morning sun when in sheltered south-facing areas).
Was nice to see some wet snowflakes earlier in the showers.

A completely sunny morning means that a total of 2.4 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.In addition to that, we have also just had our first contribution to this winter's rainfall total to have come from snow melt although this has amounted to no more than 0.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh and nothing at all at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
That however, is probably fair enough in this instance since we only got a very thin covering of snow (although a lot of that is still around in shaded areas in particular as I write) which means that the equivalent rainfall total from that would have been only a very small amount.Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 2.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 2°C at Edinburgh Airport and 2.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
