If you want cold and snow head south. We are on the western edge of the Massif Central in Central France and we have had lying snow for about a week now. Got a thaw going on now though as the wind is coming from the south west, it's about 2 degrees outside. More snow forecast for next week. We are quite low down at only 478 metres above sea level, but we got about 10cms of snow, higher up they had about 40cm. Be nice to have an early spring now!

so we can no longer look to that to shut down our zonal feed and release the cold!

No point in tip-toeing through the output anymore. Itโ€™s not going to happen and that was clear from early Jan. Weโ€™ll pick up dregs from cool NWlys but the proper Easterly remains elusive.

Where the hell is the colder air that was supposed to be arriving overnight? It didn't even drop to 2C

This is just a sick joke. The only thing coming down from the north at this time of year should be snow not the vile and disgusting conditions being spewed out once again.

Shades of 2013/14 now with this weekend by far the worst of all the Grade A crap this winter has vomited out. It's appalling beyond words. Wet, sunless, windy. Just absolutely horrible and the 3rd Sunday this month when the conditions are too vile to even leave the house.

Being able to exercise in fresh air should be a basic human right and it's not possible in this utter toilet. ZERO quality of life in this miserable, depressing hellhole.

It has been obvious since early January that this winter was never going to deliver and all it's doing is getting more and more depressing and intolerable. A catastrophic horror show like so many of the nasty and unpleasant rot we have suffered over the past 10 years or so.

Looks a lovely sunny day in Aberdeen with a light covering of snow on the beach in Aberdeen but can't make out the depth - but is it more than the 7cms? - I know that's what you;re looking to beat?

Lovely TO see the sun today in EXETER and in Aberdeen there too Rich?!! But yet again last night we failed to drop to freezing with a low of 3c! Pathetic and looks like cloud cover will increase tonight so thus preventing a frost or from temps falling! Looks like this could turn out to be one of the most frost free January's since January 2007 and we could be on par with Jan 2016. I'll need to look back at winter stats. The lowest temp so far this January has been -1.5c. It hasn't been a wash out but this issue has always been persistent cloud during the nighttime. Been such a borefest really! But won't go on as I have already mentioned this!

I know for a fact that apart from the odd hail shower this week all Iโ€™ll be seeing falling from the sky will be rain... down here you need entrenched cold already in place for snow to fall when itโ€™s coming in from the Atlantic.
I really do hope that the charts get it wrong about milder air in early February as thatโ€™s when Iโ€™m spending a week in Derbyshire visiting family. I would love it if it snowed whilst I was up there. I could relive my sledging days but I feel snow will probably be in short supply.

Hope this is a premature moan but things don't look good for me getting any meaningful snow cover.

Showers last night lost their intensity as they approached and we have a slight dusting only.
Today looks like a sleety/fragmented mess in these parts.
The showers tonight will probably be too far west.
The front on Thursday/Friday will either be too far south or a very light band push up which might also be a sleety mess.
There don't look to be any other obvious snow opportunities.

Whilst there are still 2 months left of the season, it is turning out very poor indeed. 0.5cm of wet snow so far, current worse winters ever for snow: 13/14, 18/19, 97/98 in that order.

The Met Office forecasts and warnings go from bad to worse. We currently have a warning in place for snow from 9pm tonight. Great except that the local forecast shows the precipitation (all rain with a bit of back edge sleet) has cleared through by 8pm and the rest of the night is dry and cloudy. The left hand doesn’t know what the right is doing. I could write a better and more plausible warning during my half hour train ride to work.

Actually I could write one now: “There will be heavy showers of toys in the vicinity of prams this evening as the forecast 1-3cm of snow turns out to be three hours of rain followed by a couple of sleety blobs.”

Expectation (Forecast) v Reality - North Northumberland

Last night: Expectation: Clear and frosty with light winds, Reality: Winds increased throughout the night and temperature rose steadily from a minimum at 4.30pm

Today: Expectation: Perhaps a few snow showers then sunny, Reality: Steady rain and drizzle all morning, a little sleety rain early afternoon, with sun gleaming through cloud at the same time.

Tonight: Expectation: Clear with hard frost - I'll believe it when I see it!

Just light rain here. Temperature hardly falling at all. 2.3c . Band re-forming to the east of here with more intensity, as models predicted.

Edit : Sleet is falling. But little chance of anything else given the band is weakening.

Ah well!! We now have just over another month of this completely snowless hell which is known as this "winter", left to endure. I will therefore be glad when it's all over and we move into the spring and whatever that might throw at us in terms of our weather.

This has been a winter which has promised so much. We are virtually at solar minimum and we have even had a SSW event. Yet even with those things, we are still contriving to remain on course for this winter to end up being completely snow-free in this part of the world.

You really couldn't make that one up.
