We had just a little bit of excitement this morning (which was still not much and a lot less than what is being witnessed elsewhere in the UK but nevertheless, a lot more exciting than what we have had it for quite a long time) as a bit of rain moved through this morning, as one or two of my work colleagues had reported that there had been a few snowflakes mixed in with that although I was too busy to notice that. In any case though, this wintry mix wasn't around for long and it resulted in just a measly 0.2 mm of rain being recorded at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh and nothing at all at Edinburgh Gogarbank.
After that though, it became much brighter with increasing amounts of sunshine over time. The end result of this though is that a total of just 54 minutes of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank in the end, although even this very poor total was still far better than what we had got over the previous three days before that.
At the moment, the skies are clear. As a result of that as well, the temperatures are dropping away with an official air frost already being recorded at both Edinburgh Airport and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
Today's maximum temperature which occurred during the very early hours of this morning was 2.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 3°C at Edinburgh Airport and 2.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
Meanwhile, the temperature at 6pm this evening was 0.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -2°C at Edinburgh Airport and -1.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
