She started out as a radio presenter before doing some children's TV, then going to study meteorology with the Met Office (that was from Wiki)
I do remember her joining BBC North West News - in fact I think I can remember her being introduced as the new face of BBC North West weather.
Early on, she used to bug me with her fondness for mild weather, which she was never shy of expressing. But she was so open it soon stopped mattering. In fact, she'd gently mock herself at times about it.
She'd still do the BBC local radio forecasts in the region as well. I tend to listen to Radio Merseyside on my way home and if she was forecaster, there'd always be a bit of banter. The presenter before the current one was particularly funny with her, and she'd play up her grumpy/cynical persona. And she's do this with the presenters of other BBC local radio channels in the region, too (as well as jointly presenting for Radio Manchester)
As you say, a household name in the region. Not least for her often peculiar fashion choices. My missus would always say "What the hell has she got on today?".
She'll be sadly missed.
