Ok So it's -1c with heavy snow in NYC as I type and looking at live webcam but  in a few hours time during the night and into the morning the temperatures are expected to rise to +7c or +8c?😲
 What?😱

I know many children would be furious going to bed seeing blizzard conditions or heavy snow falling 2" ins thick (-2c) outside thinking when they wake up there will be over a foot of snow, snowman and snowbalk fight in Centeal park with photos but only to wake up to reality with temps of +8c with heavy rain and all.snow melted.😥

I just hate seeing snow turn back to rain and slushy mess but love seeing rain turn to snow. Of course. Love seeing this meteorological transition in precipitation type.

Wasn't there a panic about no snow in Lapland for the 'Meet Santa' trips?

Most certainly was.

Several weeks ago there was significant snow to sea level, then it melted to high up the hillsides but seems to be back again.

Looking at the Tromso cams you sometimes see a cruise liner (Northern Lights package trip) tied up. I think there is one there today.

Yes there was, but that's northern Finland in particular. On 30th November there was no snow cover which is almost unheard of for that part of the world. Since then the snow has come and now there is 6-12" generally in the area.

They've had impressive snow fall this season, compared to last year.

Also Geirangerfjord cruise port has also had impressive amounts of snow since Sunday (compared to last year), & it's snowing there right now as well as visible ice floating in the water!!!

Stelvio is pretty deep this year, after a slow start with some traffic into December, a large drift formed in front of the buildings, then there seems to have been maybe two metres more.
At one point you couldn't see the top of the ground floor shutters but it has settled down quite a bit.

It may be cool here for this bank holiday weekend but at least we don't have snow, unlike Geiranger in Norway!

It was all lovely & green there on the 1st May, grey & wet on the 2nd & now it's covered in snow & looking very wintery instead of spring.

At least the first big cruise ship had lovely weather.

I found a new Stelvio Cam, they are having problems - it will usually be open in May.
They have had to track over snow at second floor level and are using 360 excavators combined with bulldozers to shove huge amounts of snow down the sides.

That's mostly fresh snow on the peaks of the mountains, it's been pretty cold & miserable there over the past few days. I've been wondering whether the snow would completely disappear in the summer, well if you can get new falls even in early July then I think probably not, well not in an average year anyway.

I saw the fresh fall of snow on the mountains there in the last few days, but the suns out now & it's gorgeous.
