During what has been a far more interesting evening, the rain got heavier as the evening went on and at the same time, it also turned to sleet and wet snow for a while which has left a very slushy deposit on the roads and pavements.
Now, that is all in the process of clearing away to the north, but not before this has all resulted in a total of 3.2 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8pm this evening, along with 1.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that today will now go down as an official rain day at both of those stations.
However, the dew points have now risen above freezing, and the temperatures have generally been refusing to drop as a result of there being too much cloud and far too much wind (the wind at 8pm this evening was still gusting up to 35.4mph from the east at Edinburgh Gogarbank).
Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 1.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 2°C at Edinburgh Airport and 1.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
