Those showers which are still coming in from off the North Sea have got a bit heavier and more frequent during this afternoon and yet, the rainfall totals at the nearby weather stations just don't seem to be reflecting that very fairly just now. I had ventured out for a while, only to get caught in what turned out to be quite a heavy downpour and yet, the official rainfall totals for today are still showing a total of no more than 1.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon along with 1.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
That is enough to mean that today will now go down as yet another an official rain day at both of those stations, but how those totals can be as low as they are after these showers were heavy enough for me to get virtually completely drenched after being caught in one is completely beyond me because to me, those totals should be showing a lot more than that given how frequent and heavy these showers have been. To make matters worse, these figures are showing nothing at all for the last couple of hours even though that is when we have actually been getting the heaviest rainfall so if anyone who is more knowledgeable on this subject than me can shed some light onto how this is even possible, I would be more than happy to hear all about that.
On another note, this afternoon brought us only a few patches of blue sky here and there and in the end, a total of just half an hour of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank. Believe it or not, that is actually better than what we have been getting recently, but this still comes nowhere near to being enough to bring us back on track for this month to end up being sunnier than average (a minimum total of 9.8 hours of sunshine are still needed over the last five days of this month for that to happen).
Not much over a week ago, the very concept of this month being duller than average in this part of the world would have been unthinkable and yet, that is exactly what is going to end up happening if we don't start getting more in the way of sunshine before the end of this month, than what we are getting just now. This means that on that note, the end of all of this easterly crap which we are getting just now, couldn't come quickly enough now.
Today's maximum temperature was 6.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 5.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
