The rain to the west of here did eventually reach us during last night but rather unbelievably, it broke up a bit as it did so which means that in the end, a total of just 0.6 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 0.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which confirms that once again, yet another weather system has failed to deliver any sort of meaningful rainfall total to these parts.

That in turn, further emphasises just how much of a real problem, it has turned out to be for us to be able to get any sort of wet weather on a consistent basis and this is why we just don't get wetter than average months here any more.

The wind is slowly dying down, but it is still very mild and the temperature at midnight was 12.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13°C at Edinburgh Airport and 13.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

There was some rain during the early hours of this morning, but still not an awful lot of it as a total of 1.8 mm of rain has fallen during today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank (where today will therefore, go down as an official rain day as a result) as at 8am this morning, but along with just 0.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

That rain has now cleared away and the wind has died down, but it is still rather cloudy after a clear start to this morning when it had looked as though we might get some sunshine to begin the day with.

This morning is still mild, but a bit cooler than yesterday morning and so, the temperature at 8am this morning was 10.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The Sun has come through a lot more as the morning has gone on, with a total of 2.5 hours of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature eventually got down to 10.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh so that for two of my three local stations, we have at least been spared for now, from that ultimate winter nightmare of minimum temperatures in double figures.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 12.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13°C at Edinburgh Airport and 13.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This afternoon was sunny to begin with but later on, it has eventually become cloudier and there was even some light rain a short while ago although this was barely enough to even wet the ground.

I am unable to give an accurate figure for today's sunshine total at Edinburgh Gogarbank just now since there is no data for the hour between 3pm and 4pm this afternoon which has come through. From the data which I have, I can say that it had been completely sunny from my last report at just after 12 noon up until 3pm this afternoon, but there was no recorded sunshine for that final hour between 4pm and 5pm. This would suggest that the hour for which I don't have any data is probably the period where it started to cloud over. This would in turn, suggest that the hour for which I have no data is unlikely to have been a completely sunny hour, but probably amounts to between 6 minutes and 54 minutes of sunshine within that hour. What I can say is that a total of 5.5 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank up until 3pm this afternoon. As a rough estimate for now, I can guess that there would have been about half an hour of sunshine between 3pm and 4pm and so, the provisional sunshine total for today in the end which I will give is a total of 6.0 hours of sunshine. However, that is only provisional, and will be subject to change if and when that missing data comes through.

Anyway, today's maximum temperature was 13.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13°C at Edinburgh Airport and 14.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 9.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
