In the end, a total of 3.8 mm of rain fell at Edinburgh Gogarbank during yesterday along with 2.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

In addition to that, a total of 0.6 mm of rain has fallen during today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning, along with 0.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes this month's total so far to 11.8 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 69.8 mm and the total for this year so far to 490.2 mm as at 8am this morning.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes this month's total so far to 7.2 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 56.6 mm and the total for this year so far to 481.0 mm as at 8am this morning.

As it is still raining as I write, those totals which I have reported above for today are unlikely to be today's final totals.

In the end, a total of 11.4 mm of rain fell at Edinburgh Gogarbank during yesterday along with 12.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

However, today has been completely dry so far as at 9am this morning.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes this month's total so far to 22.6 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 80.6 mm and the total for this year so far to 501.0 mm as at 9am this morning.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes this month's total so far to 18.8 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 68.2 mm and the total for this year so far to 492.6 mm as at 9am this morning.

Whilst yesterday was a very wet day by our standards, our experience from the latter part of April onwards shows that wet periods such as that, never last for long these days. Because of that, it wouldn't surprise me if we now returned to the same old story as before from now on, with Atlantic weather systems bringing only very small amounts of rain if anything at all, thereby resulting in this month being drier than average overall yet again.

Until yesterday evening it had been pretty dry with only 9.7mm total for the month so far, but the heavy rain overnight more than doubled this, adding 13.7mm (the highest in a single event since the 29th May) to give a current monthly total of 23.4mm

47.5mm here, seems unlikely to be much more for at least a week so a dryish month seems on the cards.

Total here at 48.4mm, last measurable rain recorded on the 14th. Now slightly below average by 3mm at this stage of the month.

A total of just 0.4 mm of rain fell at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh during yesterday morning but with nothing at all at Edinburgh Gogarbank where the latest dry spell has now just entered its 9th day.

This means that whilst we have at least been spared from the possibility of an absolute drought at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, the fact that yet another dry week ahead has been forecast means that there is a real possibility of an official absolute drought being declared at Edinburgh Gogarbank by next weekend.

What all of this means that this month's total at Edinburgh Gogarbank remains stuck on 22.6 mm, but this month's total so far at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has only increased to 19.4 mm, so this has been a very dry month indeed not in terms of the actual rainfall amounts, but also in terms of the number of official rain days.

Precip. to date is 23.4mm, nearly half of which fell in one evening on the 14th.

We have had 16 days so far with zero precip. and only 4 days with > 1mm, so pretty dry still.
