On one hand, it would be great to get a cold winter and yea, that would make it really interesting in that respect if we still have high pressure hanging around here in December. However, that will depend very much on the exact position of that high pressure, so that isn't going to to do us any favours if we end up getting stuck on the mild side of that block as we were in the winter of 2016/17.
Apart from that, recent history tells us that it's usually always mild in December anyway (with only the odd exception that rule) and as far as I'm concerned, we could really do with seeing some much needed rainfall in this part of the world.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
