A damp and dreary start to this morning and yet for what is supposed to be quite a major event, this is turning out to be rather a damp squib and a major disappointment (this after all, is one of the most boring parts of the country when it comes to our weather with very little ever happening so I shouldn't be surprised by that in any way).

According to the latest radar maps, the rain appears to be already clearing away and yet, the amounts which we have had from that have been small once again with just 1.2 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 1.0 mm at the botanic gardens. Nevertheless, this still does at least mean that today will now go down as an official rain day at both of those stations.

The wind has died down quite a lot here as well so with the rain already clearing away, this just leaves us in yet another borefest of yet another grey, overcast and depressing grey nothingness with nothing actually happening.

After a very warm and sticky night, the temperatures are at least dropping a little bit although it's still warmer out there just now than what it should be at this time of year. Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 14.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 14°C at Edinburgh Airport and 14.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Yet another horrific morning from this totally crap and worthless September.

Dank, dark, wet and gloomy. Temp no lower than a disgusting 13.6C overnight which is the same as it was during the day yesterday. VILE.

Not much of interest from ex-Hurricane Helene here. Just a cloudy and breezy autumn day, though also quite warm for the time of day, at 18.0C currently.

After a dull and overcast morning, the clouds are starting to break up a bit more with some decent blue sky to my south. However, nothing in the way of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

There has been a few further spots of rain during this morning as well, but today's rainfall total has only gone up to 1.4 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 1.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 12 noon.

This morning's minimum temperature eventually got down to 14.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 14°C at Edinburgh Airport and 14.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so it was a very warm night for this time of the year.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 15.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15°C at Edinburgh Airport and 15.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. That is still fairly warm anyway for this time of year, although it feels a lot warmer than that when the Sun appears.

This afternoon has seen a bit more in the way of sunshine coming through at times with a total of 1.3 hours of sunshine having now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon.

However, the wind picked up as the actual centre of low pressure which is the eye of ex-Hurricane Helena has moved away from this part of the world. This has now brought a maximum wind gust of 41.6mph from the WSW at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon. That in itself has sounded a bit noisy and with Storm Ali not due to arrive until tomorrow, I wouldn't like to imagine what it will be like then.

However, it is still warmer than what it should be at this time of year and the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 17.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 18°C at Edinburgh Airport and 18.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This evening became a bit cloudier over time although in the end, a total of 2.3 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Since then, we have had a period of heavy rain and although that wasn't around for long, it has increased today's rainfall total so far to 3.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 2.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 8pm this evening.

Today's maximum temperature was 17.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 18°C at Edinburgh Airport and 18.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so it has ended up being another fairly warm day here.

Unlike last night though, the temperatures are gradually dropping away in the manner in which they should be doing so which means that the temperature at 8pm this evening was 14.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15°C at Edinburgh Airport and 14.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. That still isn't particularly cool, but it should at least be more comfortable for sleeping tonight, than was the case last night.
