As Michael in Aberdeen suggests a new thread for ‘the far east’ and ‘down under’ might be interesting because the hurricane thread is of course just for what its title means.
Having said that, the latest 2018 typhoon threat for the Philippines archipelago and region as a whole is as severe as it ever was.
Having connections with the region I suppose I have an interest in what happens and it is easy to see how politics and weather coexist even if locals don’t perhaps see it that way.

That said people in the Philippines just aren’t interested in the weather like we are in the UK.
I was probably one of a handful of people who had max min thermometer in the province I worked in. When I first saw heavy intense tropical rain it was like nothing I had even seen before yet the locals shrugged it off. Amazing light storms over the mountains the same. Incredible cloudscapes similar. I did discover though a couple of weather geeks who worked at PAGASA (the national weather service) with all the latest sat images etc but they were the exception than the rule.
But back to the the current storm and future events
