Whilst we all like to see decent, warm and sunny weather, we did get more than our fair share of that during the summer and even going back into the latter part of the spring. In that regard, August was a bit of a let-down. However, we now seem to have thrust back into summer in this part of the world, especially during the day with the forecasts suggesting that this could be the case for a while.

For me though, I would rather now be just getting on with autumn since we are now into the meteorological autumn, although we did get a taste of that last night with a few places even recording a touch of frost. If you would like to have a good moan about that or anything else during this autumn though, this is the very place for that.

Well the return to summer certainly hasn't happened this month and yet again we have a vile, depressing sunless Sunday

It's just beyond depressing. The last mostly sunny Sunday was 1st July and we've now had just one mostly sunny weekend day out of 16

This has to be about the worst run I can remember at any time of year. It's just the absolute pits.

I would rate 2011 as the most dire late summer/early autumn I can remember but this year has to eclipse that on account of the totally rank weekend weather. It's just excruciatingly awful having to endure these overcast skies week in week out.

I managed to escape the gloom in Perth yesterday where the weather was glorious and miles better than anything I've experienced here since returning from Italy in July. Sadly it's just back down to earth today with more horrific damp, grey muck.

A bit of rain overnight and early this morning then the cloud cleared and it was another nice day. Two very “usable” days and pleasantly mild too.

OH and when I arrived in Aberdeen yesterday it was also gloriously sunny then. The entire NE of Scotland had the best weather in the UK yesterday and I can say that safely as I drove over 530 miles of it.

Well no rain so far this September - only spits of drizzle and event when we do have rain it's nothing!! Also some really muggy warm humid nights - so uncomfortable for sleeping !? - I thought the Express were talking of an Arctic blast ha! it's 12:25am here in Exeter and the outside temperature is still 19c. Really could do with a nice cooler fresher night here in the south now!!! I am craving it! It's too warm at night for Autumn - at least it's a SW breeze thus - i can feel the cooler air when window is open.

Also, house spiders, slugs, snails etc and even worse there are lot's of silverfish around in my shower & bathroom!  - all thanks to these warm nights!

Autumn generally is definitely starting later now compare to my youth. September is generally more of a summer month, with October being the first proper Autumn month with leaves turning yellow and gold colour and the first misty/foggy mornings showing up all the cobwebs in the holly hedge next door to our house. November is when the leaves start to fall though these days the oak trees in the parks near us aren't usually fully bare until early December. GW is definitely having an impact on the timings of our seasons.

This weather is so boring man!!

Not being funny - I hate the rain but we really do need it here in the south!!! spits of drizzle and heavy drizzle is mucky and yucky! we need a proper Atlantic gale, cooler nights and proper heavy rain which we never seem to get in the south these days!!! It's the middle of September for heavens sake and it's so warm and dry and this is set to continue yet again.

Is there any way in which we can get the temperature here in Edinburgh to stop going up?

At just after 8pm, I reported today's maximum temperature at the botanic gardens as being 18.3°C.

Now as at 10pm tonight, the temperature at that station has gone up to 18.6°C and is still rising as I write.

This is despite the fact that we are now well into night-time. At the moment, we are now into what is supposed to be "autumn" and yet what were are experiencing just now in terms of the warmth and humidity at this time of night is even worse what we were getting during the summer.

As a result of that, I'm really not looking forward to trying to get to sleep tonight under these very uncomfortable conditions.

Now, we've past the Autumn Equinox, and getting towards the end of September. It is therefore, utterly ridiculous that this still keeps on happening especially since this is every bit as bad as it was during the the summer.

I'm really getting a bit P@*#ED off now with the same old borefest which I keep on having to report, where we have almost constant grey skies and an almost constant depressing and soul-destroying grey and overcast nothingness with very little in the way of sunshine, but which will occasionally be interrupted by the odd sunny spell, and with very little if anything, in the way of rainfall.

Surely, the weather can't be any more boring than that and yet, that is how it almost always is here these days in what surely has to be one of the most boring parts of the UK when it comes to our weather. It's even getting to the stage now where even getting just a little bit of rain is increasingly becoming too much to ask for in these parts these days (after all, we still haven't had a wetter than average month here since April).

It's not that I'm actually wanting it to rain of course. However, if that is what it is going to take for something that is even remotely interesting to happen with our weather here, then that is how it is going to have to be. All I ask at the end of the day, is for something different to happen for a change so that our weather can get back to actually being interesting again in the way that it once used to be.

That is because I'm fed up now with always reporting the same old boring crap over and over again, especially since whoever reads that is only going to get even more bored with that over time, which isn't exactly going to be very good for attracting people to this forum at the end of the day.

Nothing to moan here - it's been summer like so far this Autumn- temps into low 20's and sunny mostly every day or partly cloud etc!? The only moan is the lack of wind and rain? It's a borefest of an Autumn so far!

For a month that's forecast to become colder than average - you can't complain really. I do wonder when we will have some proper Atlantic wind and rain and cooler or cold nights here in the south!?

Tomorrow will be wet for a time but then after looks like temps will be back up to 19 or 20c for a week.,

I usually holiday in the Canaries in late October/early November but so sick to death I am of enduring the rancid October weather of recent years I brought it forward and will be there for the next two weeks instead.

Looking at the model output that is a decision which appears to be paying off big time. This autumn has already been boring beyond words but next week is truly looking like a plunge into the abyss. Typical 21st Century filth on offer. What the hell is happening to October when this garbage is repeated year after year? Southerly winds delivering endless overcast dirge, light rain/drizzle and temperatures constantly stuck between 10 and 15C Literally anything would better than this toxic muck. The middle third of October, in particular, is just about the most revolting time of year. Both the last two years saw a miserable 10 hours sun recorded for this period. November is a far more pleasant and enjoyable month these days.

I can barely think of any Octobers in the 20th Century as repulsive as 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2017. All utterly vile and now 2018 looks like being added to the list of horror. It is beyond a joke how bad October has become. We’ve not had a properly crisp, sunny one since 2008. The first decade since the 1960s when no October has managed 120 hours sun. There wasn’t a single occasion of consecutive Octobers recording under 80 hours sun in the 20th Century. Not only did we get that in 2013/14 but we got a triple from 2004-06.

It is all down to these ghastly southerly synoptics. In the 20th Century very mild Octobers featured W/WSW/SW winds which made them pleasant months such as 1958, 1971, 1985 and 1986. In the 21st Century only 2007 has been like that with the above horrors all featuring copious winds from SSW anticlockwise to SE which are all repellent gloomy and dismal wind directions. Warm sunny weather and frosts used to be a feature of almost every October at some point but now we rarely see either. Just disgusting grey muck year in year out.

Horrible!! wet, muggy , heavy rain , drizzle followed by more rain but worst of all very muggy and warm at nights! It'#s 11:30pm and the out door temp is rising to 18.5c here in Exeter. - crazy to think last Saturday we didn't make it above +10c as a daytime max. I wonder if this could be a record breaking warm night for October.

Another thing - so many silverfish here - in sink as well as bath tub and even on bowls! Slugs are creeping into kitchen and snails - hate stepping on them too esp by porch and driveway! Cobwebs even in car and spiders, more earth worms breeding! Bad weather ...! So uncomfortable at nights!

What do you people do to get rid of silverfish if you ever get any? We aren't short of silverfish down by the Quay in Exeter.

There is me thinking October will bring an end to these warm nights the south has been facing over the past several months but clearly not! Looks like we could break the years nighttime min recorded back on 8th/9th July when temperature never fell below 18.8c here in Exeter. It's midnight and it's 18.6c outside now.

Silverfish like damp too and are food for spiders - so there's a connection to think about. Plenty of info on Google.
