Absolutely vile today about the worst weather you can get strong easterly winds and cold rain. Thankfully it looks a bit better over the next few days as we pick up more of a southeasterly

Exactly two years ago we were enjoying the best possible November weather under a crisp frosty high pressure. Now we are enduring the worst possible conditions under the most repellent synoptic set-up imaginable. The grotty depressing mild, grey, low diurnal range gunk is just relentless with no end in sight.

No sign of anything remotely normal such as frosts, sunshine, westerly winds and changeable, varied weather. Just day in day out of toxic grey crud: stupidly boring light drizzly rain and a stupidly boring lack of temperature variation.

This week has been even more putrid than the rock bottom expectations I had for it. The forecasts showed minima of 3C. It hasn’t even dropped below 5C all week under endlessly dull and gloomy skies and almost constant light rain. It’s indescribably dire. Day after day of sickening, repulsive, unhealthy filth. The worst spell of weather since the Storm Frank related horror of late December 2015/early January 2016.

This month is so far off the scale of awfulness it’s surreal. Over 75% of wind from the SE quarter, zero frosts and just six nights that have dropped below 5C. It makes poison like 2011 and 2014 seem almost palatable by comparison.

Another month like nothing on earth we ever used to get and it just keeps on getting worse

Why are the British addicted to the weather?

Well it's because everything seems so average most of the time...

We trawl over charts in the hope of something special, something to get excited about and take our minds off the humdrum daily routine....

Sitting so far north we see Canada and the states just a few thousand miles away get power snow and vivid blue skies whilst we get mild dull nothingless mizzle with a moderate breeze!!!

Now of course we wouldn't really fancy a Hurricane or Tornado!! But it would be nice to see or know that in the coming weeks and months we would get power snow and a dry cold... The charts tease us with the prospect of this now and again only to move it further into FI as the time approaches.. Like walking in the fog!!

As we head closer to Winter most of us hope of having seasonal weather. For myself days of perpetual dullness and long mild nights are what I dislike most about the coming Winter.
