Cloud now thickening ahead of the weather system which is expected to bring a rather miserable day ahead.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 10.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Here in Edinburgh, getting more than two bright and sunny starts to a day in a row was always going to be too much to ask for these days. Not surprisingly, normal service has been resumed once again this morning as we are back to overcast skies with nothing in the way of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank, as at 8am this morning.

In addition to that, it is also raining here in Edinburgh as I write. Having said that though, the rain isn't all that heavy just now and as at 8am this morning, this has only resulted in a total of 0.2 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 0.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 10.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so last night was milder than the previous night before then.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 11.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 12°C at Edinburgh Airport and 11.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Becoming cloudy but staying dry for now. 17.1 C & 70% H but the freshening southerly wind is already taking the edge off it.

Going by the rain radars, looks like being a staying-indoors-watching-Star-Wars-and-not-feel-guilty-for-it kind of afternoon.

This does look like being the archetypal wet Sunday. Time to bake a loaf amd make a marrow soup for lunch, and do a Sunday roast this evening.

Proper warm front conditions: grey and overcast, flat sky, rain will start light and gradually get heavier.

Here in Malvern moderate rain now set in, very similar to Bolton by the looks of the radar.

Proper frontal set-in-for-the-day rain here, but heavier than I expected.

The pattering sound on the skylight is quite relaxing, though. Kind of white noise that sends you to sleep.

Time for a nice cup of tea.

At the moment, this is just another very boring day in one of the most boring parts of the country in terms of our weather, with very little actually happening.

We have a lot of constant grey skies as has been the norm for this month, with nothing in the way of sunshine having been recorded for today so far as at 12 noon.

We are getting some rain, but this still isn't amounting to anything more than just occasional dribs and drabs of it which means that as at 12 noon, the rather measly total of just 0.8 mm of rain has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with just 0.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

I will go more into what this means for this month's overall totals in my next post on the Precipitation Watch thread but in the meantime, I will just add that with these sorts of totals and with with the radar maps showing nothing too heavy on the horizon in terms of rainfall, our hopes of seeing a wetter than average month at Edinburgh Gogarbank in terms of the actual rainfall amounts are now in complete tatters and in very serious trouble.

What has been been happening though, is that the temperatures have been very stubbornly refusing to rise during today so that at 12 noon, the temperature was just a ridiculously cold 11.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 12°C at Edinburgh Airport and 12.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which for all three of these stations, is really abysmal for this time of year.

15.2c with steady light rain since noon.

The house temperature has dropped below 20c. The heating has clicked on.

A shut the curtains, watch a film, have a roast and a bath Sunday ahead.

Days like these turn my thoughts to winter.

The forecast rain has failed to materialise here. Just 0.6mm earlier on and since then nothing.

Still a completely useless day for doing anything outdoors. 13.1C, overcast and windy from the east
