Dull and raining, the strong southerly wind (my least liked weather type and yet STILL get to experience those in high summer) is making the current 14.7 C feel quite cold.

Rain has set in here now and the temperature is down to just 10.9C

The weekend before last Christmas saw temperatures several degrees warmer and it was dry with some sun too.

The rain has cleared away for now, but that has just taken us into yet another grey and overcast nothingness with yet more constant grey and gloomy skies. This means that as at 5pm this afternoon, there is still nothing at all in the way of sunshine which has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

The rain did eventually get heavier for a while during this afternoon though and so, this takes today's rainfall totals so far as at 5pm this afternoon to 4.2 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 3.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This means that today will now go down as yet another official rain day at both of those stations although the total for Edinburgh Gogarbank has continued to fall well short of what was needed to fall there during today, in order for this month to even be in with a chance of being wetter than average overall in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

In addition to that, today has been an unseasonably cold day. Over the last hour or so, the temperatures gave started to recover a little bit and because of that, I will hold off from reporting today's maximum temperatures until my later update at 9pm.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 5pm this afternoon was 12.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 12°C at Edinburgh Airport and 12.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This evening brought about a continuation of that same old boring grey nothingness which we had at around tea-time so in the end, nothing in the way of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank. This makes today, our fourth completely sunless day of this month, although it is only the fifth sunless day of this summer.

Today's maximum temperatures so far are 12.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 12°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 12.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which for all three of these stations, is absolutely abysmal for this time of the year.

However, I am quoting these maximum temperatures rather tentatively because the temperatures have been holding up at around those maximum values for a large part of this evening and could well yet, go above those maximum values by midnight at the end of today.

With that in mind, the temperature at 9pm this evening was 12.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 12°C at Edinburgh Airport and 11.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Ironic that right now at 11 pm is actually the warmest part of today with 17.9 C & 96% humidity. While the main rain has moved on and the wind died down, there's still a good deal of low cloud with very light drizzle.

11.4 mm of rain has fallen today, the lawn will certainly appreciate that.

Not often the warmest part of the day in summer is recorded at almost 11 at night. Still cloudy with showery rain, but this evening has reached a dizzying height of 14.9C.
