So far this morning, we have something which we haven't actually seen all that often during this summer in this part of the world. I am of course, referring to a bright and sunny start to the day which so far as at 8am this morning, has resulted in a total of 1.6 hours of sunshine being recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

However, there has also been a total of 0.2 mm of rain which has been recorded for today so far at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 8am this morning, with Edinburgh Gogarbank remaining dry up until now. That may well have been caused by a shower of rain which passed through here during the early hours of this morning, although that is more likely to just be down to condensation in this case as the radar maps have shown no signs of any showery activity in this area at that time.

Last night's overnight temperature was 8.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so last night was chilly once again although tonight is likely to be much milder, thanks to the impending arrival of ex-hurricane Debby.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 11.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 11.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Mist, dew and a very chilly 7.6C this morning. Today reminds me of a lot of the days we had in May - chilly mornings but then very pleasant 18-21C afternoons. At the same time, the cool mornings are a sign that autumn isn't far away.

This afternoon has very slowly and gradually descended into yet another boring, depressing and soul-destroying grey nothingness over time as the August permacast has got back underway once again with yet more constant grey skies. This means that as at 5pm this afternoon, a total of just 4.9 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank with nothing at all in that department, over the last two hours.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 5pm this afternoon was 18.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17°C at Edinburgh Airport and 17.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

No real change from this afternoon as our permacast hell goes on with yet more constant grey skies and with nothing else really happening just now.

The Sun did briefly make an appearance during the early part of this evening but in the end, a total of 4.9 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank with nothing at all in the way of sunshine being recorded there since 3pm this afternoon which is rather disappointing when you consider that we had such a bright and sunny start to today.

Today's maximum temperature was 18.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 18°C at Edinburgh Airport and 17.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 9pm this evening was 15.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 14°C at Edinburgh Airport and 15.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
