Some cloud around, but some clear spells as well.

In the end, a total of 1.6 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 2.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Tonight is also much cooler than of late so that the temperature at midnight was 11.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This means that tonight is already the coolest night of the month so far at Edinburgh Airport and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, as well as the second coolest night of this month so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

There is a lot of high to medium level cloud around just now, with the Sun only occasionally managing to be seen through that. Consequently, a total of just 24 minutes of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

Last night was rather chilly, and was the coolest night of this month so far at all three of my local stations. Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 8.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 13.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13°C at Edinburgh Airport and 13.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

While there is that freshness in the air (and mercifully in my famed west-facing hobby room where it has finally fallen below the 30 C mark!) courtesy of a westerly breeze, it is still looking quite summer-like with near unbroken sunshine, 21.6 C & 57% H.

Today is turning into yet another complete borefest here in Edinburgh with plenty of constant grey skies, and with nothing else really happening. So far, a total of just 1.3 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

In addition to this rather depressing grey nothingness which we are experiencing, the temperatures are also refusing to rise by much today, so the temperature at 12 noon was just a rather cool 15.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15°C at Edinburgh Airport and 16.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

What a lovely day and what a relief.

A very pleasant 21.6c here with 50% humidity. Still bone dry after sod all last night - the garden remains arid.

This is not turning out to be much of an "unsettled" spell of weather at the moment, in the way that it was supposed to be (at least in this part of the world, anyway).

There was a passing shower during this afternoon, but this wasn't even enough to dampen the ground and now, it looks as though today is going to go down as yet another technically dry day even though this wasn't forecast to be the case today.

This is just one of many occasions during this summer so far, where rain which has been forecast has either failed to materialise altogether, or come in a much smaller amount than what had been forecast and as long as this continues to be the case, we are staring down the barrel of yet another substantially drier than average month this time, yet again.

There is still some cloud around, but there is now an increasing amount of sunshine coming through with a total of 2.2 hours of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Having said all of that though, the temperatures have been rather disappointing for this time of the year today. Even with that though, the temperatures have started to recover a bit once again during the last couple of hours, and haven't yet fully peaked for today. Meanwhile, the temperature at 5pm this afternoon was 16.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17°C at Edinburgh Airport and 17.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
