24c pt cloudy with A/C and CI moderate breeze from the NW. The A/C has formed a very long line in the sky stretching from one horizon to the other... I thought I heard or read somewhere that this was due to the jet?? Anyone have any info..

Line goes SW-NE across the sky

Temperature here was bumping along at 30C or so from 11.30am to 1pm, but has steadily risen to 33.7C in the last hour before falling to 32.4C. Variations appear to be due to intermittent cloud cover.

It's a shade temperature with a non-compliant screen but the change has been very noticeable.

23C, very grey skies. Had a few spots of rain earlier which didn't come to much. Dry now. Still feels quite warm but is so dull.

Also, are you sure that you are actually in the same part of the UK as me just now?

The reason why I am asking those questions is because I'm not aware of there being any rain in this part of the world today. The streets are completely bone dry and the radar maps have shown no signs of any rain, anywhere near here all day. In addition to that, the rainfall totals for today continue to be stuck at 0.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 0.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which would be unlikely to be the case if there was actually some rain around. According to SEPA as well, none of the rain gauges in your part of the city have shown there has been any rain around today.

When you add all of that together, I have no idea what rain you are referring to here.

This has to be one of the most frustrating afternoons that I have ever come across with regards to chasing any sort of half decent sunshine totals as there has actually been quite a bit of blue sky around in increasing amounts as the afternoon has gone on. Yet not one single bit of that has been in the right place to allow us to actually see any sort of sunshine.

The result of this is that the very dismal total of just 12 minutes of sunshine has been recorded for the entire day so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 5pm this afternoon.

Today's maximum temperature was 20.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 21°C at Edinburgh Airport and 21.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 5pm this afternoon was 19.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 20°C at Edinburgh Airport and 20.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Yet another day that was far better than forecast. Sunny with a max of 25.7C.

No sign of the vile weather that was forecast for the afternoon and evening, thankfully. I'm still in the garden now but sun pretty low in the sky now.

I can see above that for once, Richard is actually happy with the weather in his area which we all know, is something which happens very rarely.

However, I just wish that I could be as happy with our weather here in Edinburgh. This evening wasn't too bad and in the end, a little bit more sunshine came through. Yet in the end, the really abysmal total of just 54 minutes of sunshine was recorded for the whole of today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

We are now three days into the month and yet so far, we still haven't had a single day with more than 1.5 hours of sunshine. This is a time of year when the days are getting shorter and because of that, this is when we should be getting our highest sunshine totals for this month. Yet, we are getting less sunshine now than what I have seen at certain times during the winter which is absolutely disgusting.

It is noticeable now that it is getting darker at nights and because of that, I have decided to bring my late evening report to this time, instead of doing that after 10pm. The reason why I was doing that at such a late time in the evening was because there was times during the lightest part of the year when there was some recorded sunshine after 9pm in the evening. However, the time of sunset has now become early enough to ensure that this is unlikely to happen again this year, and that is why I am now doing this report at time.

As the days continue to shorten, there will eventually come a time when there will no longer be any recorded sunshine after 8pm as a result. Once that happens, I will then bring these late evening reports back further to 8pm which will then mean that I will reverted to doing these reports at the times in which I normally do them during the winter.

Anyway with all of that out of the way, I can report that although it is still quite warm, it isn't as warm as it was at this time last night and it doesn't feel as muggy either which should be better for getting to sleep tonight.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 9pm was 16.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17°C at Edinburgh Airport and 17.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
