Absolutely revolting day with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Truly vile with an endless train of light drizzly rain in the North Sea and no concept of diurnal range with the temperature varying from 16.2C to 17.3C since midnight.

Totally unacceptable that yet again the worst weather is saved for the weekend

Delightful! Drying up very quickly in the sunshine but that fresh SW wind is making the 20.4 C & 64% H feel so wonderfully fresh and comfortable where I've got windows wide open to air the house out. I'd be more than happy if it can stay like this for the rest of the summer.

No more hideously swampy sticky bodily bits . . . at least for now.

After a rather wet and miserable morning and a rather wet and miserable start to what is expected to be a very unsettled weekend, I can now say that our long awaited cold front has now finally moved through.

This morning has brought very little in the way of sunshine and so a total of just 12 minutes of sunshine has been recorded for today so far as at 12 noon at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

However, the rainfall totals from this morning's really big downpour are once again, not as high as I would have expected to see from such a massive downpour, although this has brought today's rainfall totals so far to 10.4 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 6.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 12 noon. As I write though, it is raining yet again here in Edinburgh and so, those totals for today are unlikely to be the final totals for today in the end.

At around the time of that massive downpour though, the temperature dropped by a few degrees from of a maximum of 20.0ºC at Edinburgh and 20ºC at Edinburgh Airport at 10am this morning, and 20.5ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh at 11am this morning.

As a result of that, the air now has a much fresher feel than what it did beforehand which means that I should now finally be able to get a decent night's sleep without feeling too hot.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was now a much cooler 17.8ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 18ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 17.5ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh with the temperatures, now refusing to rise any further.

We finally have rain! ...a isolated shower just blown in off the solent and the ground is finally wet!...for the first time since the 7th June...although the ground and soil under the trees remains like a dust bowl! (maybe tomorrow) but as it’s 19c and gusting almost 35mph...the house is finally getting an airing.

Unbroken strong sunshine in a fresh SW'ly breeze. White horses are dancing on the sparkling sea. The temporary relief from the heat is tangible and shown on the faces of everyone finally able to get on with their daily chores.

One thing which I forgot to mention in my last post is that after the cold front moved through, the wind picked up a bit as well and it is actually quite windy outside now, which is also helping to make it feel that bit cooler still. It has also brightened up as well with 42 minutes of sunshine having now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 2pm this afternoon

There are still some clusters of showers showing up on the radar map to the south of here, but these don't look anywhere near as heavy as what we saw this morning. From that, I can probably safely say that the worst of the weather for today appears to be over although it still wouldn't surprise me if some convective infill resulted in us entering into another permacast hell later on as what tends to happen with this sort of air mass.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 2pm this afternoon had gone back up slightly to 18.6ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 19ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 18.7ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which is actually close to the long term average for the time of year.

Trying to cool the house down, It`s 16.7C outside but 25C indoors with almost all the windows open. I suppose it`s like living inside a giant storage radiator after weeks of hot sunshine heating the building up.

We’ve just had a very wet and windy half hour. Great for the garden!  Now it’s stopped raining, the sun is out and it’s much calmer.

Apart form the wind, it’s been a cracking day today in the SE. Warm and sunny with highs of 23c. No showers have made it here yet all day, although it looks like a couple could push through in the next few hours.

There is more in the way of cloud around than what there was earlier on this afternoon, but a total of 3.2 hours of sunshine has now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 5pm this afternoon.

It is however, very windy with maximum gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank of up to 32.3mph from the SSW as at 5pm this afternoon.

It has however, been mostly dry so far during this afternoon so that as at 5pm this afternoon, today's rainfall totals so far are 10.8 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 7.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Since that cold front moved through earlier on though, the temperatures have been refusing to rise during this afternoon, and it is a lot cooler and fresher than what it was this morning.

As 5pm this afternoon, the temperature was 15.9ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 16ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 16.5ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which is now, actually rather disappointing for this time of year.

Weather was looking alright until about 3 then it fell to pieces. We still haven't really passed through through the centre of a storm. Always been on the edge so I don't think it has rained that much. Did have one very short outburst earlier. It is currently sunny, very windy and 17C. I can feel my house temperature dropping!

Just when it had looked as though we might get a reasonable end to the day at least, it has now started raining here in Edinburgh once again with the temperature now down to just around 13ºC.

Solid rain late morning (8mm) gave way to hazy sunshine and a max of 27C here at Le Pelerin. Now 23C, lovely and fresh, crickets chirping. The serious heat returns tomorrow.
