We eventually managed to get some rain during last night but this part of the world, this is still not delivering what the farms and gardens actually need. Once again, we have the same old story with the rain moving away all too quickly and delivering just small amounts of actual recorded rainfall. In this instance, we have ended up with a total of 1.4 mm of rain during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank where yesterday will therefore, go down as an official rain day as a result, along with just 0.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

It is very warm and muggy just now as well, which is making it very uncomfortable yet again, for trying to get to sleep as the temperature at 1am this morning was 17.2ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 18.1ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. We therefore need this cold front to be moving through as quickly as possible and just now, that couldn't happen quickly enough.

Well so much for this cooler air and a more comfortable night for sleeping! It's actually warmer than last night and previous night and its 1:30am temp of 19c in central Exeter. Feeling humid and sticky! Only difference is a stronger breeze but +19c!? 1:30am Come on!! this is horrendously uncomfortable for sleeping. It's still 26c in my bedroom too!

18C, cloudy. Had a very light shower a minute ago. Doesn't look like it's rained much. Looks like the majority of the rain somehow bent around us last night when I've looked back on the radar.

Woken up at 5am by our bedroom door slamming, which coincided with a 40km/h gust on my AWS and 2.4mm of rain which fell in 10 minutes - the bathroom window was open!

We also had 1.2mm yesterday so the monthly total is now a massive 3.9mm

Today was forecast to be completely different from how it has been recently. There is to be less sunshine than of late, and there is expected to more of a cooler and fresher feel with a greater chance of some rain. However, there has been been certain times during this morning up until now, where you would get the impression that absolutely nothing has changed after all.

It is still warm and muggy and in fact, last night and the early part of this morning have been even warmer than of late. It's not raining just now as I write and at one point in time (albeit briefly), the Sun was even shining.

However, there are certain things which are different. First of all, this morning has actually been generally cloudier than of late although there has been some blue sky around in places. The end result of this is that a total of just 6 minutes of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

Furthermore, there has also been some overnight rain and although that has now cleared away to the north, it has resulted in a total of 8.0 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning, along with 2.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that today will now, go as an official rain day at both of those stations.

However, what I have mentioned in the above two paragraphs is all that has changed during this morning in comparison with other recent days. That is further confirmed by the fact that last night's overnight minimum temperature was 15.6ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 16ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 16.5ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which for all of these stations, is actually warmer than the previous night before then.

This morning continues to be be very close and muggy as well and despite there being a lot of cloud around, the temperature at 8am this morning was 18.1ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 18ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 18.8ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The question which I therefore have, is where on Earth is this cold front which is supposed to move through (and which clearly hasn't done so yet) when we need it?

Bright & breezy sums it up.

Temp 17.0C, min 16.2C.

As for rain, well there was a brief, and I really do mean brief, it must have lasted less than a minute, torrential downpour at around 8am but that's been about it.

31mm of rain, more or less in the last 12 hours or so. The first significant rain since May. Just 12C this morning but nice and sunny and feeling really fresh in the moderate breeze. More like a morning in September.
